Cutting back our guest list

Cassie, on July 13, 2020 at 11:05 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 7

COVID BRIDE HERE - how do you let people know you are cutting back on your guest list???

OKAY! So. My fiance and I were originally getting married may 30, 2020 and had sent out invites to 180 people prior to the shut down. Now we are trying to cut out guest list to be compliant (somewhat..) with Michigan for numbers in a group for our September wedding. So we are getting ready to send out our new invites and i want to know, what is the proper way to un-invite previously invited guests from the previous wedding date?

Here is a website I found with a few good email/letter templates for uninviting guests: https://theeverylastdetail.com/coronavirus-wedding-postponement-email-templates-to-send-to-guests/

I would recommend sending a letter to the guests that you are uninviting to let them know. If you are planning to live stream the ceremony, definitely add that info in as well!

Following! That was our initial date too (we went through with the wedding and are postponing the reception). I'm worried that we may have to do the same.

We didn’t have to cut very many people, so FH just reached out and let his guests know that we would have loved to have them but health department restrictions on our venue forced us to limit our guest list to immediate family and the wedding party. Everyone was really understanding. If we had several, I would have made cards to send out to them, but a simple call was easier with the two families.

If you are able to livestream, I think that’s a great option to provide to people too.

We went out an invite to view our live stream and explained we had to drastically cut our guest list and we wish we could have them celebrate in person.

Thank you! That website was very helpful. I’m curious about the live stream suggestion, how would you go about that?

Glad the website was helpful! As for the live stream, you could setup a laptop or cell phone or some other device, either have it secured on a table or tripod, or have a family member/friend hold it. There's a bunch of different software options: Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Facebook Live, etc. Or, you could setup a video camera and record it that way, and share the video later.
