Cut the guest list

Chelsea, on April 27, 2020 at 2:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 7
Hi!
I need help figuring out how to cut the guest list... my hall fits 600 so I can’t use that as an excuse. My fiancé family is huge and I put my foot down at 250. We are at 278... my family and I have invited 69.. the rest is his side and bridal party.... and honestly I could so add some more of my friends to the list but idk how to cut where to cut... we have so much family and friends I could easily invite 300... any opinions where to cut ? Most of it is his moms side and I know when we send save the dates she’s going to want to add more people! We can’t afford that. My foot was locked at 250 and I have kids coming to the wedding... I really want kids to be welcomed but if we cut kids it would cut us down to by 20-25.

I’m in the exact same boat as you. My fiancé’s family is huge! We were planning to invite 270 people (80 of those are my invitees), but I’m trying to cut it down to 220 (so we’ll likely end up with 180 to 200 people at the wedding) to proactively account for any social distancing measures that may be in place at the time of my wedding. My friend sent this to me and it was very helpful in determining who we should invite. Hope this is helpful.

Definitely make your guest list current - invite people you've been talking to and seeing/hanging out with in the past year or so.

Can you tell her that you guys can't afford to have that many people on your budget? And maybe she'd be willing to fund her extra guests? You really shouldn't be paying for a party for her, its for you. If your wedding is in the next year or 2, COVID is a great excuse. Maybe she could throw you a second reception with her side of the family/friends to keep numbers down at each reception. Just throwing idea out there.

That is a great idea! We plan to throw a party after the wedding to share the wedding video with those persons we could not invite to the wedding.
