Custom Wine Engraving for Anniversary wines?

Kayla, on February 1, 2020 at 9:09 AM Posted in Planning 1 3

Hi Everyone,

This might be a weird question but me and my fiance want to get wine bottles to reopen on our anniversaries, 1st year / 5 / 10 / 15 / 20 and so forth. We also want to have it engraved, and I would like to gift the same wine bottle to his parents and my parents.

Does anyone know where to find a company who does custom engraving on a wine bottle that is not one the company sells?

We have not picked out the wine we will use yet, but we know we want to go on a wine tasting tour and once we find one we both really like, we will buy some.

For an example, https://www.windsorvineyards.com/ sells their own wine with custom engraving, but there is two problems with this. 1.) Their wine is not meant for aging. 2.) We would like to use our own wine we pick out on the wine tour.

You may struggle to find exactly what you're looking for.

Aging of wines is not an exact science, and the depth/breadth of a wine's ability to age 'gracefully' and deliciously depends on a LOT of factors, including but not limited to where the grapes are grown, weather conditions in the year they were grown, conditions under which bottling occurs, storage (both short and long term).

Most times one isn't going to know if a wine will age well until the requisite 5-10-15 years have passed. Then it's a crapshoot once you open it.

I have one bottle of a Nebbiolo purchased almost three years ago from a winery that was delicious, but according to the wine expert was still young. He said while it was fine to drink now, if we were adventurous we should buy a bottle and let it sit for five years as there was a good chance it would be even better. It's sitting in a temperature-controlled wine fridge on its side, and in another two years I'll pop it open and hope for the best.

Thanks for the input! We actually own a wine cooler fridge and had some that were gifted to us on our 21st, to open later on. We opened it on our 26 birthdays and it worked great, for both different wines! I was hoping it would be the same case but I'll definitely look into this more once we start touring.

You may find better luck with an anniversary wine box instead. Here’s one on Etsy:

Yes, definitely choose wines that should be aged for the desired amount of time. And that you want to keep an eye on for that amount of time. Husband and I went to France recently and my husband is newly interested in buying young wine and aging until it is ready to be enjoyed (both by us an as an investment to be sold later). The pragmatist in me sees this as being more trouble than it’s worth when you’re talking 10, 15, 20 or more years. 😂
