We've been searching for our invitations for months now and haven't been able to find anything that we like the quality of online. We've tried Minted and Wedding Paper Divas and they're not customizable enough for us (we want a black invitation with all of the text foil stamped).

We met with a local designer that does beautiful custom work and got a quote, but we're thinking it's a little high for our wedding budget. For those that got custom or very formal invitations made (we're having a black tie wedding), what did you spend on invitations and how many did you order?

We did ours through Etsy. We did custom letterpress.. which is pretty pricey just like foil is. We got 55 suites for $1200. I said I'd never ever spend that amount on paper, but they're absolutely gorgeous, worth every cent

I spent an embarrassing amount of money on our invitations and save the dates, but whatever - I love pretty paper Smiley smile

@PrincessPotato - your quote is not bad for everything that you're getting! To bring down the total cost on our order we cut out: inner envelopes, return address printing (hired a calligrapher for the invite envelopes, got the rsvp envelopes printed somewhere else for cheaper), all additional card inserts (just did the invite and rsvp), and I chose a simpler design for the rsvp card.

Penn & paperie looks like they have some pretty formal invitations. Search Google for "couture wedding invitations."

I made ours. I probably spent about $500 for 170 invites.
