Custom Hair Products

Kayla, on September 1, 2020 at 9:01 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 8

Have any of use used the custom shampoo or conditioner like a Prose or Function of Beauty? I've been debating if it would be worth it or not. FH absolutely loves when my hair is super long so I'm trying to grow my hair out for our wedding in a couple months, then to eventually donate it again. I've thought about extensions for the wedding, but they make me really nervous since my hair is super curly and a red that my hairstylist isn't confident she would be able to color match.

Is the custom shampoo and conditioner worth it? Do you have any other suggestions on how to get my hair to grow a bit quicker?

Hmm I didn’t even know there was custom shampoo! What I liked right away is it is free of sulfates, parabens, phthalates, mineral oils. Parabens and sulphites can cause problems. I am intrigued and if you get it please reposrt back hahaha. One product I’ve always liked (I have long thick hair) is the kerastase extentioniste however I never used it to help my hair grow faster, but it is targeted towards length strengthening. (My sister always says it’s full of sulphites and silicones) but I still love the way it make my hair feel.

On a side note, there must be vitamins that encourage faster hair growth....?!?

Funny that you ask that, I too started debating it, but as I'm already someone battling hair loss (protein deficient) - I've opted not to chance the products a month before my wedding.

I'll debate buying extensions first before chancing it so close to the wedding.

If you decide to try it, let me know how it is... I may try it after the wedding.

Can't say I know anything about custom shampoo, but I recently switched to the Nexxus shampoo and conditioner duo I got from Costco and my hair has been LOVING IT. It smells like coconut as well which is definitely a plus in my book.

Prose is amazing. I’ve been using it for like 2 years and I can never go back to regular shampoo

They use ingredients (like silicones) that aren’t good for curly hair, so I can’t try them. I’ve heard some good things from a straight haired person about Prose, though.

Over the counter hail/nail/skin vitamins work great at helping your hair grow faster.

Not familiar with custom shampoos. Do they have a trial program where you can test them out first?

I've been doing Function of Beauty, not too impressed. I have blonde hair so I like the purple aspect of the shampoo but not much else. It gets really bubbly & lathered up so that's good. My roots are oily because I have oily skin and oily hair, but the ends of my hair are dry from long-term coloring and heat tools. Since I put I have oily hair, the shampoo is very drying & the conditioner is useless. The first shipment also came spilled all over. I got it for 2 shipments, won't be doing it again. If your wedding is in November, I'm not sure you have much time to grow it out. Most companies advertise 8-12 weeks to see results so I'd start now. I also tried Jazz hair products, I haven't decided on those. I started using Ovation Cell Therapy in January 2018 (wedding in July 2019), taking hair/nail/skin vitamins (be careful - biotin can cause acne in some people), avoiding using heat tools, only using scrunchies, using a lot of leave in conditioners & masks & overnight treatments, and sleeping on a silk pillowcase. So far, OCT has done the most for my hair for sure.

Function of Beauty has a silicone free option for curly hair. Not sure about Prose.
