Custom Gowns

Did you love your custom gown? If so, who made it?!? I’m considering going the custom route and thought I had found a great store on Etsy that both did an amazing job and had affordable prices. They used to get rave reviews, but more recently they’ve had a ton of complaints. I honestly wonder if the pandemic affected their business since that’s about when the complaints started. So now I’m nervous about that company and am having difficulty finding an alternative. Location doesn’t really matter since there are no custom designers near me and it seems like a lot of them do online orders anyway. So…who’s been through a great custom design process?

Some people are looking at dressanomalie.com. However, it appears to be in transition to be used only as part of the David's Bridal style search.

I am having 2 custom gowns made. I actually just contacted dress makers in my state and told them my vision, and saw who I vibed with and whose previous works I liked. I would suggest reaching out to bespoke dressmakers in your state. You could also check with reputable seamstresses as well - many of them have inside knowledge of who designs and makes gowns, and who the most talented ones are. One of my dressmakers is actually the seamstress I had planned to use for my store-bought gowns (changed my mind on them and decided to go with custom dresses instead). Turns out, she used to have her own bridal line and has made hundreds of wedding dresses. So seamstresses can definitely be a source of great knowledge in the industry.

There is o only one person who I would trust with a custom gown order, Grace Bridal Couture, Los Angeles. She only takes 75 Brides per year and interviews you. She is that serious.

I went through the custom route myself and ordered my gown online from Diadem, and it turned out to be a really positive experience. I was a little hesitant at first since custom orders can feel risky, but the communication was clear and they really understood the adjustments I wanted. The final gown fit beautifully and felt very personal, which made the whole process worthwhile. For me, the key was being very specific about details from the beginning and sharing reference pictures—it made the end result feel exactly like what I had envisioned.
