Custom bridesmaid dresses?

Michelle, on April 29, 2021 at 3:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

This is an odd question: would you look into custom made bridesmaid dresses based off another designer? Case in point, several cute styles at JJ’s House that we (my attendants and I) love but I am strongly opposed to buying from them because it is a Chinese scam site with hit or miss reviews. None of the other popular sites, designers (Azazie, David’s, MoriLee, etc) had styles anyone was excited about enough to spend money on, even with rotating seasons of styles.

Depending on the cost, I would totally look into that!

Part of the criticism of JJ House is that it’s a knockoff site, right? First I’d try to find the original designer of the dress and order through an authorized seller. Ethically I’m not sure hiring a private seamstress to replicate another designer’s dress design is any better than JJ, but I understand that it may give you a better peace of mind. I’d keep looking at other sites. And remind the bridesmaids that setting a budget based on what they saw on JJ House may not be realistic if they will ultimately be ordering from a more reputable site. As they say, you get what you pay for.

Brideside and Lulus are a couple other websites where you can find bridesmaid dresses.

Didn’t see anything on Lulus or ASOS, And haven’t come across who original designers might be

I got a dress off jjs for a wedding I attended. The only negative thing I found was the hanger straps/tie things were a little visible. I didn't know until the day I was wearing it so I tried to cut them and you could still see a little white from them. Using a sewing tool to pull the seams holding it in would have fixed that had I had one. Quality really was not bad at all. The color was peacock. I did read that some lighter colors could be see through.

Azazie literally has hundreds of styles - there's nothing similar to the JJ's that you all liked?

My cousin used JJ's house for her wedding last year and all the girls had a great experience. It was the nude/taupe color.

I wasn't in the party but matched per the brides request due to my fiance being in the wedding. Everyone's dresses looked nice in the party but hanger tag/things (lol idk what they are called) I noticed when people had their arms above their head. I was also looooking for it to see if it was only my dress. One other call out is I am 5'8" and I wouldn't have worn heals higher than 1.5" due to the length would have probably been too short for my style. But it was a fairly inexpensive (under $100) and I personally didn't need it altered so I would order from them again
