Cushion cut or round diamond?!?!

Carrie_NYC24, on May 3, 2015 at 6:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

My boyfriend and I are picking out my engagement ring- and I was wondering what's the difference in look between a cushion cut diamond with a halo and a round diamond with a cushion cut halo?! Here is the ring that he wants to get me.....

This is something your jeweler can answer in detail. If you want opinions of what individuals prefer, I'll give you my opinion. I love a cushion cut. They are supposed to maximize the brilliance and sparkle of the diamond. It's really a matter of personal preference, but seriously, talk to your jeweler. This is what they're paid to talk about.

Mine is a cushion cut! And the cushion cuts can vary a bit. Some are more squared off and some are more oval. (Mine is closer to an oval). Also -- just as a bit of advice for ring shopping -- consider what it will look like on your hand years from now. If you want to get something trendy (like a halo), consider that it might look dated 10 years down the line. . . On the flip side, you might consider purposefully getting a halo because it will be reminiscent of the time when you got engaged! It's up to you! Just things to consider! Smiley laugh --- The picture of the ring you posted is lovely, by the way!

    Mine is cushion cut!

Personally, I am not fan of the one you have on. It looks a little too harsh to me.

Put the different types side by side to understand the difference. I thought I wanted cushion but I ended up loving the princess cut.. They're all very personal and there's obviously no right one, totally personal.

For example I'm not crazy about halos so I won't offer much advice, but can definitely appreciate their beauty. I like when the halo is a similar shape to the center stone, but again that's totally one persons preference, and whatever you like best you should get! Congrats on the upcoming engagement

Preference thing on cuts so shop around and just browse jewelry stores to get an idea of what shape/look you prefer. I agree with w=mc2 that the halo replicating the shape of the diamond looks cleaner in my opinion. I have a cushion but generally they do run a little more expensive too.

Thank you!!! We already have a destination resort picked out and time planned..... And I can't talk about it with ANYONE!!!!! Lol

Yes this ring has a stunning side profile which is what I love about it, but I agree about the harshness I like halos that subtlety frame the diamond... Like you can barley see it almost but you know it's there.
