Curvy brides - past and future

So I went for my first fitting yesterday and the seamstress said putting a corset back in will help it fit better and I won’t have to worry if I fluctuate up or down a few pounds. My dress is about 1-2 sizes too big...I guess I’m having trouble visualizing it. Has anyone had the same experience and if so could they calm my fears a little bit haha

I'm having a corset back put into my dress. I'm not worried so much about fluctuations in weight. I am a bit chubby, but I've actually been the same weight--within 5 lbs--for at least 10 years. But I really love the way a corset back looks, which is why I'm doing it. Helping the dress fit better is really just a bonus for me.

What are you worried about? That it won't look good? Or the fit?

I am a plus size bride and in the past have gotten a dress turned into a corset back. I honestly hated the way it looked. My wedding dress has very cute buttons at the zipper and I would not change them.

I think this would be more of a preference in my opinion. I would try a corset back dress before changing the dress.

I love my dress it’s just hard to visualize how it will look all fitted. I want it to be really fitted and I guess I’m worried about it being too big and looking like it’s too big

When I tried on my dress at the store I tried on a much larger size. So they clipped me in and I had to look at pictures online to visualize. Of course the model online is not nearly as curvy as I am. When I received my dress in the mail I would try it on weekly hoping to be able to see or visualize it on me and altered. Finally after posting on here about having dress regret, I decided to make an appointment with a seamstress who is amazing so far. She pinned my dress and gave me options that will allow my dress to hug my body and I loved my dress much more after that appointment. Sadly, I didn't take pictures, but will at my next fitting. My suggestion is to make a few appointments to meet with a seamstress and then choose who you feel must comfortable with both price and talent!

I loved my corset back. I did wear shapewear under it to smooth everything out but the corset was comfortable and made me feel my dress was fitted to me. Curvy brides - past and future 3

Somehow the bridal consultant I used convinced me i needed a dress that was at least 2 sizes too big for me. When it came in and I tried it on I was SO disappointed because it just looked BLAH and I couldn’t imagine how I would get back that “OMG I love this dress” feeling. Recently I started the process of getting it altered and I couldn’t believe how much I loved it again once she had taken it in!

I think the corset back in 100% personal preference, but I wanted to chime in to tell you that having it altered will make all the difference! Until then, if you want a corset back, just trust the seamstress because I think they are better able to envision the end product.

A corset back is definitely a good idea if you are planning on losing weight as it's more forgiving when it comes to size alterations. Make sure the seamstress uses hidden rivets and not fabric loops, because fabric loops tear off SO EASY. I've been at 3 weddings where they popped off like a bra strap and the bride was PISSED.
