Super July 2021

Current total: Just over $20,000. i just want to marry him!

I'm trying to keep things basic, but special. I'm doing DIY bouquets, centerpieces, and boutonnieres. I bargained hard with my photographer and videographer, and got amazing deals from both! I'm going to Amazon for my shoes and accessories. Waiting on 50% sales before I buy my invitations, custom stamps, and other stationery. Still, my total is over $20,000 for everything (including rings) for a wedding of around 50 guests. Jeeeeeez! I don't have a planner or coordinator. I'm only having open beer and wine, no hard liquor. Yet I'm spending over $20,000! Things add up fast! I just want to marry him.

(Should I include the rings in the wedding cost? They are not really about the one-day event. They are forever.)

How much is too much to spend on a wedding? Is it worth it? Will I regret it? These things run through my mind. Anyone else having these thoughts?

I’m not including cost of rings in our wedding total lol, or my dress... or the honeymoon. If I did I would seriously cringe haha

I think as long as you guys aren’t going into debt for it try to enjoy the day! I think you’ll only regret it if you have bills to pay for the wedding after it’s already happened.

My FH & I are doing a DW so we can avoid the $20,000 price tag.

Not adding the honey moon or rings in the total. Everyone would have a heart attack if that was included in my total

Everything can add up so quickly even if you're being conscious of a budget! Ugh, why does everything have to cost money? I can see why you're stressed, and I hope all this stress will be worth it on your special day Smiley smile

I’m doing a DW and we are up to $9000 and still not 100% done. I still have a cake and transportation and few other small things. DW can be just as expensive. Trust me. Looking now I wished I would have done it locally because we could be saving money. But I’ll just be glad when it’s over and be married to the love of my life.

To have a wedding here at home it would easily be $20,000. Our DW will be costing us about $5,000 but that does not include our travel and the only reason our travel is costing us more is because we have 2 kids to pay for and FH and I will be staying almost a week more. We’d just rather spend it on that.

Wowza. I doubt you'll regret it.
We're going simple on our rings. It's something that can be upgraded on anniversaries. Our budget all in is a little less than half of yours and 3x the guest list but I have a feeling yours will be a lot fancier than mine.

Same here! We have five times the guests and less than half that budget, so I’m sure it’ll be exquisite! I think as long as you’re not going into debt over the wedding you’re good 👍🏼

We’re around the same, not counting honeymoon. Our invite list was originally 230, now have 140-150 attending.
I am absolutely losing my mind at how much we are spending omg! I wanted something simple. He wanted extravagant. Well now he’s working two jobs to get it all paid off. So we’re starting our marriage hardly passing each other every few days.
Our wedding is fairly fancy, our venue was the big cost at 7500 but we have lodging for up to 65 inside and unlimited every and camping onsite. Also bring all our own vendors and have it from fri at 2 until Sunday at noon.
still...I wanted the park and beer and pizza afterwards. Lol

Some of the questions you’re asking cannot be answered because they are really subjective. I’m frugal, so $20,000 is wayyyy to much and I would regret that unless I was marrying into the British royal family lol. As a middle class American, I would much rather use that amount of money as a down payment on a house!

This is exactly how I feel!!! We are at 10K for our DW and I already feel a certain way about it, trying to cut the guestlist lol.. our 10K includes our one week stay plus the flight thou so I guess it’s not that bad..

I think it depends on the couple, i don’t see myself spending that much on one day.. we are at 10K for our DW and I already think it’s too much🙈.. it does include our one week stay plus the flights though so it’s not bad.. as long as you won’t be in debt after and won’t regret it afterwards I think you should be fine..

We are currently at $8k (excluding rings) but we still have payments to make to vendors and more things that need done, so we will be upwards of $20k but we have a budget of $28k for 160 guests invited.

Things add up so quickly! We started at $10k and quickly jumped up from there to $20k. I think as others have said, as long as you aren't going into debt for the wedding I doubt you'll regret it.

I know the feeling. We're having a rather small wedding too and the price is already beyond what either of us imagined. While we're not going into debt, I think we're both shocked how expensive stuff that is seemingly insignificant is, for example... a platform covering aka a glorified sheet ( $500 ) ... We're still shopping around on that one.

Things add up super quickly and if you're in a HCOL area, all bets are off.

A $20k wedding may seem highly extravagant, but in some parts of the US, this is on the lower side. Not saying it's right, but this is just how it is.
