Cupcakes instead of cake?

rachel, on February 18, 2017 at 10:56 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

We are having a small wedding with 30 to 40 people. We wanted to do a small cake for us to keep, then have cupcakes for our guests (frosted in our wedding colors). I have no idea what the proper amount of cupcakes would be. Should i only get one per guest or have extras there. Has anyone done this before that might have some advice for me.

I have seen people do cupcakes and cake pops, typically 2 per guest.

I'd get a smaller cake. Cupcakes are more for kids' birthday parties and are messier. (well dressed guests may not be amused)

Personally, I don't like cupcakes. I would get a small cake for everyone to share (those little wedding cakes are adorable), which is kind of the point of a wedding cake to begin with...

I don't like cupcakes for a wedding. That being said, I would have at least 1.5 cupcakes per person. That should even out between those that don't like cupcakes and those that will want 2. Although if you have it in your budget, I would get 2 per person to be on the safe side.

Our baker recommended 2.5 cupcakes per person.

We're having a two-tiered cutting cake and four flavors of cupcakes. I know everyone says that they don't like cupcakes for weddings; I didn't for a long time, either. But cupcakes are so much more convenient and affordable and easier to take home and all that practicality totally won me over. PLUS it's easier to have more flavors. Wedding cupcakes FTW!

Cupcakes are my favorite thing ever. Just make sure you have plates, and forks so people aren't forced to eat them with their hands...

I had considered doing this (in picture) but I thought more and more and ended up wanting a cake instead. I'd say one cupcake per person. Also wanted to add I am having a very casual beach wedding. So I think it depends on the style of your wedding.

What do you mean a cake to keep?

I think cupcakes are fine, but you definitely need more than one per person.

What are your wedding colors? I'd caution against dark icing. Stains lips and teeth.

2.5. cupcakes per person? Wow, that's a lot! I'm not a professional baker, but I would imagine 1.5 per person would be fine?

We are doing cupcakes and were told 1.5 per guest by the bakery.

Typically 1.5 pp should be enough cupcakes... but as others stated I'm not a fan of cupcakes at weddings either
