Cuomo Bans Dancing

Larissa, on August 20, 2020 at 4:01 PM Posted in New York Planning 1 13
Cuomo banned dancing at weddings. Even if you have a mask on, less than 50% capacity, and 6 hours away from the city! There is really no point of having a reception now... I guess I might as well go elope. This is not what I dreamed of at all! Very disheartening! 😔

There's lots of lovely weddings where guests mingle without dancing. But you have to decide what your priorities are.

I have been to many lovely weddings (including my own) where there was no dancing. A reception is simply the party that follows the ceremony. Dancing can be fun, but it is by no means the only reason to have a reception.

I agree with the previous people on here I have been to weddings where there was no dancing and is still really lovely. But I completely understand that you would want that for your wedding.

Isn't your wedding in December of next year? Apologies if not, it's tough to tell nowadays. If so, it's way too premature to take anything happening right now so deeply to heart. Focus on the positives and the things you can control now. Unfortunately, none of us know what it will look like 16 months from now, but one can only expect it should be better (and if not, this country has serious issues, Lol).

    Jana, Maggie, and Mell,

Dancing isn’t a priority. However, without dancing it’s basically just a sit down dinner. Emphasis on the sit down because Cuomo forbids standing while eating and/or drinking. I don’t think I want to pay all of that money for people to be glued to their chairs all night. Of course corn hole and other games are banned too, so it’s not like you could provide other forms of entertainment.

I think by the time your wedding date draws near all of these bans should be lifted. You have quite a lot of time. Stay positive !

Wow, I just realized your wedding isn't until 2022. I wouldn't cancel your reception just yet. You have a few months (Smiley winking ) to decide if you think paying all that money is worth it or not.

I don't even live in NY and I can't stand Cuomo. We are still proceeding with our wedding in September of this year. But a lot of my FH's family lives in upstate New York (like by the Canadian border) and because of his travel ban to our state most of my FH's family cannot attend. Mind you my county has not had a case in over a month, but the larger cities in my state continue to see a rise. Either way sorry you are going through this and I hope things get better by the time of your wedding!

I think by the time of your wedding in Feb of 2022 you won't have to worry about it.

I’m a bit late to this post, but is no dancing still a thing?

I would suggest you postpone the wedding if dancing is very important to you one of the many reasons why we postponed to spring 2022 if you are getting married next December 2021 you have plenty of time and hopefully restrictions are lifted

If your wedding date isn't until February 2022, then you shouldn't be thinking and/or worrying about whether there is dancing at receptions yet. You still have plenty of time before that would become an issue for your date.

As of today, the no dancing thing is definitely still a thing. We had a call with our venue today who recently got reported for being SLIGHTLY flexible (we have a huge family and just the immediate families put us at a total of 55 and that was as flexible as they would originally be) Anyway, they called to tel us that we had to: 1. cut our guest list down more (was originally cut down from 300 to 55), 2. End our wedding 2 hours earlier due to the 10pm rule, and 3. Plan for no dancing. He was almost embarrassed to say it but he actually said we could dance around our individual tables, like at our seat basically, if we wanted but that was it.

28 days to go and I’m fairly certain we are going to postpone...Despite our best efforts to make it work
