Cuff links with a normal button down shirt?

Can you do this? Or must you buy a cuff link ready shirt?

I want to order Green Lantern cufflinks for the FH as a surprise. He wants to wear a green button down so I'm wondering how easy it is to find one in a store that you can wear cuff links with.

Any pointers? Most trendy colors are in regular cuffed shirts.

You need a french cuff shirt. They do sell them at your local department stores.
What shade of green... like Green lantern/St Patty's day green?

Too dark? You could always flip out the tie after you get it if this is the right green
