Cruise

My fiancé and I are considering a cruise for our honeymoon! I've been on three, all with royal Caribbean, and loved it! (he's never been on one).

I've noticed they're so family oriented, which is great! However, we're looking for something less chaotic and more relaxing. Any advice on what cruise line would offer this? Specifically what ship (we're undecided on locations)?

What were your favorite excursions? Pros and cons to cruises vs. a traditional honeymoon? How far in advanced did you book?

Any advice would be appreciated!

We are looking at doing a river cruise. Smaller boats less people but still get to see the sights. I've never done a big cruise before with a civilian ship.....

If you want calmer/more relaxing, I’d say you need to look at Princess Cruises or maybe Celebrity. But I’ve had totally relaxing times on Carnival, the supposed party cruise line. It’s all in when you go, and what you choose to do. If you go during spring break, you’re going to have a different experience than if you go when school is in.

Also, I don’t sit around the Lido deck with all the various ages and the bars. I sit in the Serenity area which is 21 & up. It’s much quieter, and there’s no drunken jerks 99% of the time. There’s still bar service but it’s a different feel, the drunks are generally elsewhere.
Good luck deciding! We’re going on a 7 day western Caribbean Carnival cruise for our honeymoon and I can’t wait!

We are doing a cruise for our honeymoon and we choose carnival, because compared to the other lines it gave us one more stop. I’m not sure which one would be less chaotic but I think that depends on what time of year your going and you could always avoid the pool area which always seems to be a little more chaotic. I do know that a NCL ship (breakaway I think) I was on offered a private adults area for an extra added cost so I’d look into that.

We went on a carnival with our 3-year-old for our familymoon. if you're going in the summer there will be A LOT OF CHILDREN. They do have a kids club and stuff but theyre everywhere lol. Like someone mentioned there is the serenity deck which was very relaxing/peaceful which is adults only, but just a warning!

We are doing Carnival. His family always cruises with them and loves it and its the only 1 I've ever gone on too. We made the mistake of going during spring break (end of March) last year which accounts for the craziness, but they assured me that usually you don't find older kids sitting in the elevators riding up and down all day and night making it take forever to call it. There are plenty of quiet places. Our room was on the Lido deck but we found a bunch of smaller hot tubs on deck 5 that were almost always empty. They have a nice steakhouse on board, a spa, adult only shows... plenty of space to escape, even if you are surrounded by teenage spring breakers lol

I have been on two cruises and hope to go on more in the future. i didn't do any for the first one on carnival to mexico. i went on excursions on princess cruises before to canada and i did an afternoon tea plus garden tour along with a tour of canada on a bus that made stops on the last day. i must say as much as they make it convenient, it is so pricey for excursions. i hear that if you book third party excursions it would be cheaper.

In August my fiance and I went on a cruise to Alaska! It was gorgeous! The excursions were so romantic and breathtaking views everyday! It was way less chaotic then my cruise to the Bahamas.

The weather was amazing! We went fishing, canoeing, a helicopter tour of a glacier and much more!

    Hi Elena,

Just wondering what cruise line did you go with to Alaska? We are hoping to book over the next few weeks.
