CRUISE WEDDING?? Pro and cons?

SoonToBeMrsS., on April 28, 2016 at 3:09 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

We are newly engaged and are a little lost on where to begin with all of the wedding planning. We know we want to keep the cost as cheap as possible but still have a memorable day. We tossed around a few idea and the cruise wedding seems to be the most appealing. There are a few things I am worried about but they are not major problems. We both come from such large families that is will be hard to invite everyone if we get married in our home state. I feel this is a way our immediate family can be there and we hopefully wont offend anyone else by "running" off and getting married. If it was up to be I would elope but it would break my moms heart.

So my question is, has anyone had or attending a cruise wedding? What did you like, or not like about it? The total ceremony and reception will only be about 3 hours but we always have the option of just moving to a different bar after I guess. One major concern of mine is the pictures. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

My parents went on one cruise, in their lives, and said never again. Even if I had decided to have a cruise wedding, I don't think they'd attend. You have to know your crowd.

I'm probably little help here but not a fan of cruises at all. The other aspect is destinations on the cruise can change (I've had that happened) but if that's not a concern then no worries. Dates for the cruise can change esp. if booked far out in advance. If you have a specific photographer then the cost can be substantive. Maybe others can shed a bit more light.

I love cruises! But I would say you defiantly get what you pay for. Staying in an awesome suite is way more expensive then a basic room. You also have to make sure that you're marriage is legal when you return from the cruise.... I considered this for a short time but the package prices are outrageous for what you get...

I have been on cruises before and loved it. Both of our immediate families like them. I know my grandma said she wouldnt be there, which is almost a deal breaker for me but with the size of our families is the most realistic. His mom is 1 of 13 siblings with 75 first cousins and theirs kids just on that side alone. The only other options we thought of was to rent a tent but the cost to feed everyone alone is outrageous.

I'm getting married on a cruise in 10 days. If you hit me up on fb (Lori Renick) via message I will absolutely fill you in on the experience so far and give you a full review when I get home. Of course if you would rather not add a stranger on fb, my bam will be up soon after I come home. Smiley smile congrats and happy planning

I was worried about the experience from the guest point of view so that was helpful. Thank you.

My coworker is getting married on a cruise in December. The other day she was telling me that she doesn't know exactly what date she'll be getting married. She requested to get married the first day on the boat, but the wedding won't be scheduled until about October, so she won't know her wedding date until then and they aren't guaranteeing she'll get the date she wants.

Hers is a Disney cruise. I don't know if different cruise lines do different things.

Check with your VIPs and see how they would feel. My brother is set on a cruise wedding and never checked with his immediate family. I'm not happy about it for a few reasons - the expense, the time off of work, and the fact that I will have a small child at the time. Would have been nice if he had gotten our feedback ahead of time.

My FH and I are planning a cruise wedding currently and are super excited about it!

We get there are a lot of struggles with having a cruise wedding, primarily cost and time off, but the way we see it is, people who can will and people who can't wont. We are both cruise fanatics and look forward to sharing our passion for travel with each other. We've not been on a cruise together yet (though we have a mini one with his parents in November), so we are really excited about it. We are getting married March 19, 2017 on embarkation day on the Norwegian Getaway out of Miami.

There are pros and cons of every wedding. The most important thing I can say is remember this is YOUR wedding. Initially we asked our families for opinions, then it started arguments over stupid junk. Now, we just say this is what it is and that's that. People kept saying "you do what you want and people will come", but then they'd give their input and it'd be opposite of that. We finally decided to listen to the first bit of advice and just do US. Everything else follows. We've talked about a cruise wedding for years, so now it is happening and nobody can stop us.

We are booked to get married April 23 2017 on royal Caribbean and have loved the process so far. I've cruised before and loved it! We liked the idea of getting to spend a few days with our guests rather than just a few rushed hours. The amount of money we are paying for the cruise, wedding, and reception on the ship is still so much cheaper than a one day wedding. We will be spending less than 15K for everything and we get a vacation out of it. We invited everyone we wanted to and hoped people would book and if not that was totally okay. We invited 175 people and 80 people have booked. (We are doing a small reception next summer for those who can't join) We are doing a 3 day cruise. I am not sure why others on here don't know what day they are getting married as that was the first thing we picked and talked to the cruise line about the legality of it and chose the cruise that fit a legal marriage in the US. We are not getting married In Port as we didn't want to be rushed the morning of boarding. We will be getting married at 12 pm on the last day of our cruise! Can't wait!
