Critique my DIY corsage/boutonniere /bouquet??

August skies, on July 11, 2016 at 11:10 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 24

So I've never done DIY flowers, but the florists around here are crazy expensive so I thought I'd give it a try. How do these look? These are 'rough drafts' if you will. Also, should the groom/GM boutonnieres be different? What makes a pin-on corsage different from a boutonniere? Just more feminine colors?

Corsage. Ignore my awful fingernails by the way. They're stained from work.

I really like the corsage and bout. Have you looked at dried baby breath? i usually looks better (more fresh) than the faux baby breath.

Those are really pretty! I agree with the the last post about the baby's breath but they look good!

I agree florists can be super expensive. We all get wanting to budget!

Do you have a trader joes? Or grocery store near you?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news : The sample bouquets you made look extremely fake/cheap

I saw some pictures of a BAM where she had a $5 real flower bouquet from trader joes that looked great!

I really like all three. Is that the bridal bouquet or the one for the bridesmaids?

For the corsage, I would consider maybe adding in a bit of the yellow flower from the bouquet. Could possibly be a nice contrast. It's pretty as is but it might be worth a try.

Where do you get dried baby's breath? And I think they're might be one in Ann Arbor Kels? I'm not sure, I'll look into that.

Junia- this is my bouquet, I'm letting my BMs pick their own flowers (I bought a ton of flowers, just letting them pick and choose which ones they want in their bouquets)

I got mine from Michaels. the nice thing is that for bouts and corsages a little goes a long way

These are actually really well made! I feel like the corsage needs something more, but I'm terrible with flowers, so I don't know what exactly. The bouquet and bout are perfect to my eye though Smiley smile

Thanks guys! I feel better for my first try haha. Jaci, my only thing is that we don't have wedding colors, just a rustic theme. The bridesmaids dresses are Mercury grey, and I love wildflowers, so I thought they might add the pop of color the dresses lack? How do you suggest integrating colors?

I think they are pretty! I personally like the bouquet and think that it not looking uniform makes it unique. Smiley smile

Jaci- I think so...you mean make it more if a pattern instead of random flowers in random spots?

Difference between corsage and boutonniere: corsage is usually larger (more, larger flowers), frequently has a ribbon; boutonniere is usually 1 small or medium sized flower and if it has a ribbon it is usually smaller and not so feminine.

I would use the purple flower (thistle?) for the boutonniere. It looks more masculine than the little white & light blue flowers.

A corsage has 3 or 5 flowers, shaped in a half moon then add filler and ribbon.

A boutonnière is typically one or two flowers with some filler (very little).

Have you price bout, corsages and bouquets at Sams/Costco? They both have different types of packages and many floral styles. I doubt they would be that much more expensive, would be real flowers, and would save you time and effort.

I think the corsage/boutonniere came out quite nicely! I like them alot. I think a little more rearranging could be done with the bouquet. I agree with others in trying to go to maybe a trader joes just to get the bouquet or even going to afloral.com and ordering a premade silk bouquet and that way you don't have to worry about arranging it but could add in some pieces to make it a little more rustic! They have a lot of options on afloral or even check out etsy where you can tell the vendor exactly what you want.
