For us, we decided if you have been with your significant other for more than 1 year. Then also when trying to do our actual wedding list if you havent talk to this person in over a year then they are not invited. Strict rules I know. We ended up with 100 guest count.

My fiancé and I are on a tight budget so we are allowing a plus 1 for anybody who we know is engaged and all of our wedding party

Good choice! I feel that couples are a package deal and it's certainly not my business to judge the seriousness of someone's relationship based on how long they've been dating. My sister brought her boyfriend of 5 years to our wedding and they've since broken up, and my friend brought her then-new boyfriend of 2 months and they're now engaged! I personally think the "no ring no bring" is super rude and outdated.

It should also be based on the amount of people you can have in the venue. I would recommend making a list first of all the people you know for certain you want to come. look at the total it might surprise you especially if you are inviting people with children. If the total is already high to begin with you might not even have room for plus one. This really helped me because i was planning on 150 for my event and when i made the guest list of immediate family and friends i was already at 148 no room for plus one and all my people already knew each other, I just seated all the singles together or close to their families.

Hmmmmm... One better for you. Any of my single friends that were not in a relationship, did not get plus ones but my friends who I knew were married, whether I knew the spouse or not, could bring their spouse. My fiancé on his side, are giving his single friends a plus one but if his friends or family are married and he does not know the spouse, he did not invite them.. So far that's been working for him and noooo issues!!

Our plus ones... are for wedding party or family in a established relationship.... other than that no one else gets one. Married/engaged is a Packaged deal. Limiting it to hard NO on people we do not know.

All the single guests get a plus one so they have someone to sit with at the wedding and reception. I don't care if hubby's friend met a girl at Chili's two weeks before, as long as she is sober and dressed I don't care.

'No ring no bring' is rude.
