Crinoline?

MrsVoegs17, on April 27, 2017 at 2:36 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

I've been working out a few days a week as well as back on my calorie counting, but I have been feeling extremely pudgy and flabby lately, which had me nervous about my upcoming fitting in June. So I went into my bridal shop today to try on my dress. My consultant had me try on a crinoline with my A-line dress. She suggested a "not too big" crinoline, and told me that if I don't wear a crinoline, my dress is going to go between my legs and get stuck and look weird when I'm walking. I feel like the crinoline made me look bigger in the hips, so I'm not sure how I feel about it.

What do you ladies think looks better? Crinoline or no crinoline? Are any of you wearing one with your A-Lines?

First pic is with the crinoline (taken today). Second is without (taken in January). Kind of hard to tell since the pictures aren't of the same position. I'll upload a second view in the comments.

Following because I've been debating the same thing... can anyone who didn't wear a slip speak to the "bridal wedgie" issue? I liked that my dress didn't have too many layers and would be lighter, seems counter productive to add more layers now but I will if it'll keep any issues from happening

Wear the crinolin! it will make SUCH a big difference in your pictures, and you'll look more put together, as your consultant suggested. she isnt just trying to upsell you, this is really true.

Thanks ladies! I'm on the fence. I have to make a decision and have my crinoline in hand before my fitting if that's the route I want to go. Before I looked in the mirror I thought it may make my dress look more like a ballgown (which the minuscule amount dress regret in me wishes I had after seeing other ladies beautiful, poofy ballgowns), but it didn't, hence the "A-line" title. I feel like it's a slow taper to my thighs and then bows out from there and I'm not sure if I like it??

I love it with the crinoline! It really gives your dress a gorgeous shape! (And definitely no flab!)

Without, I feel like the crinoline makes it poke out on the bottom.

I can see what you mean with the bowing out from there. I have no idea what crinoline is or why it is needed, but yes, I can see what you are talking about. Also, you look beautiful! That cut is gorgeous on you! ETA: ah google, so that's what crinoline is. Maybe they have different styles that wouldn't be as noticeable?

Thank you! I absolutely love my dress.

@Fall bride, she had me try on a pull on skirt. It was a little too small for my waist so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it. They'd have to order it in. However, I think if I decided to go that route, I'd order one online for cheaper and so it could be returned if I decided against it.

@mkebride, a crinoline is a soft hoop skirt to make the dress poof out. It had never even crossed my mind until today.

My dress is an A-line as well and I am wearing one with mine. I think it looks better with and you look stunning.

@FutureAbbey, Thanks!! Do you have a picture of your dress with the crinoline? Do you have an issue with yours bowing out at a certain point? I'm wondering if I should get another crinoline and see how that looks? I'm sure having the dress properly altered may also help.

Not to hijack the thread, but where are you guys buying your crinoline? The only store I know that has those is Davids bridal, but I don't really want to pay that much. I've seen some on amazon, but I'm worried about the quality. Any particular sellers you're going through?

@Awkward... not a hijack. I am wondering the same as well. I would have a hard time stomaching the cost of one from my bridal shop!

@Awkward, I purchased mine on Amazon for very cheap and it is just fine.

I like it with the crinoline, and I do think it will help you move around throughout the reception. Your dress looks beautiful on you!!

I always vote crinoline. It makes the dress feel "finished" if that makes sense. I love it and also you're not flabby so no more of that! The dress looks beautiful on you!

You could try a different style of slip, maybe one a little slimmer, if you felt it made you look wider/bigger. There are a few different styles. I did a real slim one with my trumpet and am glad I did.
