Crinoline didn't work, now what?!

MrsVoegs17, on May 4, 2017 at 2:32 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

I posted last week about how I had tried on a crinoline at my bridal shop and didn't like how it tapered smoothly and then bowed out at about thigh level (pictures attached). I ordered a crinoline with hoops off Amazon, hoping it would give me the shape I wanted. It was too big for my dress, my dress wouldn't go down over it. My consultant had me try on the one I tried last week, which I still saw the tapering issue, as well as the next size up, which was too big.

Do I just go without a crinoline? Do I buy a slip to wear under it instead? I'm at a loss, and I need to have whatever I end up going with before my fitting on June 16, and now that my consultant brought it up, I'm nervous about the bridal wedgie!

First picture, with crinoline.

Second picture, without.

I think it looks better without. Wear spanx under it and you won't get a wedgie.

Honestly it looks so much better without, that dress is beautiful on it's own. I'm really not trying to hurt your feelings but it looks ridiculous with the crinoline underneath.

@Mrs Richmond.. no hard feelings! The thought of a crinoline had never even crossed my mind until my consultant mentioned it (probably just an attempt at an upsell!) @OGJ I agree.. that's why I tried a hooped crinoline to try and smooth out that bell shape, but yes, I'm not a fan either!

I had the same problem and took the hoops out and now it looks amazing! It adds a little fullness but not too much. And the under slip keeps the dress from going between my legs when I walk.

    @Vanessa, thank you :-)

I think I'll be skipping the crinoline then!

@OHP.. I'll look into that as an option. I'm thinking once it's hemmed it will look better.

@Fall Bride.. that's what I'm planning on doing too! Planning to get a cheesy pair of undies from Etsy that say Mrs. FH cuz I know FH would love it. LOL

If you want crinoline, go to David's bridal. Ask them to try on a "550 (Style number) fit and flare slip".. this slip will not poof out to much and will give you just the right amount. From your picture it looks like you're wearing an A-line slip, when you really need a simple fit and flare one.

I tried one off Amazon with the hoop. Looked ridiculous, LOL. I then discovered the hoop could be removed. So I slipped it out, and it gave the dress that fuller look, without the over-the-top hoop look. Maybe something to try!

Or find one that is just tulle, without the hoop to start with.

I found this one when I was looking for a colored one. Smiley smile

@Michelle, I already dropped it in the UPS box to return it. I think I'm okay without! Like I said, before my consultant had mentioned it, like the 5th time I had tried my dress on, I had never even thought of it or considered it.

I think the dress is stunning, and it definitely looks better without the crinoline.

Also... I'm assuming that in the picture you don't have a spanx on...you don't need one. You look amazing as you are.
