Creating Your Own Wedding Album - best Websites?

VC, on June 22, 2017 at 8:32 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 26

I thought I was bumping up an old thread but it's not showing up. I am looking into websites to create our own wedding album.

So far I am down to Adoramapix and Nations Photo Lab. The software is almost identical.

I also read about ZNO but I heard quality may have gone down?

Any other websites I should consider?

I am looking for thick thick paper, panoramic spread.

Aw, darn. I've done that too, VC (commented on an old post, but it doesn't show up in the feed). Anyway, I commented on it!

    https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/create-your-own-photo-album/c49952627acb105c.html?page=2

I am around, VC!! Lol. This (OP) was from my non-married-person account (before I became a photographer). I usually post under Rachel Langerhans Photography now Smiley smile

I am so happy I used Nations Photo Lab (and so thankful to annakay for suggesting it!) - I LOVE my wedding and engagement albums that I designed. I use it for all my client albums now. Beautiful quality, thick pages, great layout and cover options.

Here is a Facebook link (should be viewable even to those without Facebook - I'll leave it as a public album for a day or so) to view the pages I designed for my wedding album from Nations Photo lab (photos taken by Julie Napear Photography; album designed by me):

ETA: You can do full (two-page) spreads, but I chose not to do any; I only did one-page spreads. Even though the pages do lay flat, I still don't like the slight sight of a line through the middle of a photo. Just my personal preference.

I'll respond to both threads but OMG thank you! Did you order the Infinity album?

Also how thick are the actual pages? I assume the photo pages are mounted on a board as well.

You're welcome! :-D Yes, an infinity album, with an acrylic cover. All said and done it was about $400ish (the order confirmation email I just found doesn't have the price on it, and the album doesn't load in my NPL account anymore). I added a LOT of extra pages though because I wanted lots of photos Smiley smile

ETA: This is the album I ordered for our wedding album (infinity album >> acrylic cover): http://www.nationsphotolab.com/albums_acrylic.aspx

I don't remember exactly how thick the pages are, probably about 1/8 inch. I can check when I get home this afternoon if you'd like. They are thick/board pages.

I ordered the more expensive (infinity/acrylic cover) album for our wedding photos, but I ordered an Album99 for our engagement photos. Still great quality and beautiful album, but not *quite* as upscale as the other one. The infinity/acrylic cover album has nice rounded edges for the pages, but the Album99 has square edges. Album99s are still beautiful, but not as high-end and are less expensive.

Following, because 2 years later I still have not made a wedding album. The cd of my pictures is sitting on my coffee table.

^ Lol, WWJo... That's the exact reason you'll see Jay in my initial post say to let the photographer finish the job by creating an album. I agree with that. It's why I was insistent to Jay that I WOULD make an album, because I'm still one of those people who regularly prints pictures. And come on - your WEDDING PHOTOS?! They deserve to be printed and/or made into a beautiful album Smiley smile

Oh believe me, I tried to let our photographer do our album, my mom worked with her for weeks choosing all the pics and the layout and it was looking so good... and then she quit. We didn't feel comfortable starting over with someone else at the same agency, so we've been putting it off Smiley sad

She quit, meaning the photographer? That's frustrating. Did she create a digital proof of what the tentative album would look like for your review/approval, so they could pass that to someone at the same agency? Super disappointing.

@Rachel yes, the photographer left the company. The photog and my mother had chosen the photos they wanted used and they talked through page arrangements, but had not knocked together any mockups yet, the photographer did leave behind what she had started but the guy who was going to take the project over was not confident with layouts and my mom did not feel confident continuing with them. This was also the second photographer we had worked with through that company who quit (the first one just a few months before my wedding) and we really didn't feel like we could trust them a third time! It was a real shame, both photographers we worked with were very nice and talented.

Ahhh @Rachel that makes me so happy!! I didn't read the comments before I responded to this post.

This might just be the motivation I need to finally get my own album finished!

@WWJo - Yikes! Try taking a look at Nations Photo Lab, it's pretty user friendly and easy to navigate (if I can do it, you can do it!).

    Thanks guys.

I use Mixbook for my engagement/guest book and it layflat only. Still very nice obviously not Wedding Album quality for me.

Yeah I really wanted to see the different between Album99 and Infinity. But I would go with Infinity.

But yeah I want like thick, good photograph paper on board with the nice details and finishes.

I haven't even received my photos from the photographer yet and I am already hoping to start my album! LOL So yes I will complete the album and plan to get it done!

And yes if you could measure I would appreciate it. I read it's 1/16 but also want a real measurement just in case.

Also is there a different between the Kodak (Kodak Professional Lustre Photo Paper) paper and Fuji (Fuji Crystal Archival Lustre) paper?

I am also going to see 2 wedding albums from friends who had their photographer make them to see and feel things like layout design, thickness, weight, sizing of book etc for inspiration and information.

VC - The pages are exactly 1/16th of an inch. I thought they were thicker, and so did my husband who measures things often and is good at guessing measurements, haha. They're thick, sturdy, and great quality though.

Are those types of paper something you saw on NPL? I'm not familiar with them, but I don't imagine there is much difference except the brand. They both say lustre, so they're both matte (not glossy/shiny).

Good luck with making an album, let us know what you choose to do!

Thanks Rachel. I figured it was 1/16 which is still very thick in my opinion.

Did you find the software easy to use? I find it tricky because it talks about BLEED and SAFE ZONE but the software doesn't even show the lines where it is so you sort of have to guess where it is.

Yes, it's very easy to use, at least if I used the full/desktop version, not mobile. the safe/bleeding areas are tricky. I understand them, but I still messed up a little on my own album. I didn't notice it right away; I noticed it the second time I looked through our album. I pointed it out to my family and they said they wouldn't have noticed if I didn't point it out. No pictures actually got cut off, but in a couple spots, the images were right along the page edge, which I didn't like. I learned from that album though and I give myself a little extra space along the edges for client albums now.

ETA: I thought the software does show a yellow or red shaded area when you drag a picture too close to the edge of a page you're designing, no? It's been a while since I've been in the software, but I thought I remember it showing some type of bleeding zone indicator.
