My fiancé and I are getting married on September 21, 2019 and we are 99% sure that we are going to create a new last name that is a combination of both of our last names. I’m curious if anyone else out there has done this and if so, do you have any advice or recommendations? My fiancé is a little nervous about how to tell people and also dealing with the perception of a guy changing his last name.

I think we are going to do the first two letters of my last name and the last two letters of his last name!

We plan on doing this as well but legal name change is an expensive and time consuming process so it won’t be until after the wedding. We would have to run our new name in the local newspaper and give our fingerprints to police. It’s a HUGE deal to change your name to something completely different.

Do people really make comments about this kind of stuff to the people doing it? I don't like I would ever ask why or make a comment. It's none of my or anyone else's business and I'd probably just say that to anyone who tried to make it theirs.

    Awesome idea!

I mean, better the second half of each last name than the first half of yours and the second half of his. LMAO

Friends of mine did this when they got married. They made their own last name because he was not very attached to having his dad's last name. So he changed his name first before the wedding, and she changed hers afterwards. It meant less paperwork for everyone to do it that way.
