My fiancé and I are getting married on September 21, 2019 and we are 99% sure that we are going to create a new last name that is a combination of both of our last names. We plan on doing this as well but legal name change is an expensive and time consuming process so it won’t be until after the wedding. We would have to run our new name in the local newspaper and give our fingerprints to police. It’s a HUGE deal to change your name to something completely different.

Do people really make comments about this kind of stuff to the people doing it? I don't like I would ever ask why or make a comment. It's none of my or anyone else's business and I'd probably just say that to anyone who tried to make it theirs.

Friends of mine did this when they got married. They made their own last name because he was not very attached to having his dad's last name. So he changed his name first before the wedding, and she changed hers afterwards. It meant less paperwork for everyone to do it that way.
