Cr-1 visa.

Lynn, on March 31, 2021 at 5:06 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 3

Hello!

My partner and I got married earlier this month and are now in the process of applying for my CR-1 visa.

I was wondering for the interview - how far back did you guys provide proof of your bonafide relationship? I have seen articles where it's two years but we've been together for over five now.

Should we put together all the photos we've taken in the entirety of our relationship?

And, are having affidavits from family and friends, plus proof of traveling together/each other as my partner and I were in a long-distance relationship for about a year due to his job.

Thank you so much in advance!

Lynn

It never hurts to be over prepared. You can bring photos, text messages, fb posts etc. Not the exact same situation, I'm in Europe, but same overall process. It can be daunting, but these agents are trained for this and can definitely tell a real couple from a fake. You'll pass with flying colors.

I'm not sure about the CR-1 visa, but I have friends and relatives who have gone through other types of USCIS applications for fiances and spouses, and from all of them, the advice has always been, you can never have too much documentation. If you have pictures and other evidence going back 5 years, include it. You don't need to gather every photo you've ever taken, but a smattering of photos, plane ticket stubs, etc. that show the timeline of your relationship.

From friends who have been through similar processes:

    - show evidence over time - so if you’ve been together for 5 years include photos etc across that period

    - if you have them , include photos of the two you with families, friends, at events etc as well as just the two of you together

    - again, if you have them, receipts for gifts etc that show one of you as the sender and the other as the recipient

    - records of phone calls, chat logs, texts etc

    - anything ‘formal’ that shows you at the same address - e.g. drivers license - or combining your lives - e.g. both names on lease/mortgage, joint insurance, joint bank account, etc.

As others have said, you don’t need every single thing, but showing your relationship across time is really helpful.
