covid Restrictions- No Dancing

Kristin, on June 4, 2020 at 7:34 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 5
Hi all! I just had a conversation with my venue coordinator (wedding set for September this year), and she mentioned that they currently are not allowing dancing outside of the traditional first dance, mother/son, father/daughter; this is due to our current state restrictions.

We are totally fine with being flexible, our main goal is to have a wedding. Anybody have any suggestions for alternative reception ideas? Some things the venue suggested were a boozy brunch, or a beer paired dinner, but I know many of you are in a similar situation and may have some creative thoughts!

The shoe game is pretty popular at weddings I have been to so that could be something fun that you could incorporate. We did a trivia game at our wedding, but that involved all of our guests coming onto the dance floor so they wouldn't allow this at your venue at least not the way we did it. Would a photo booth be allowed? You probably couldn't have props, but people could still take funny photos without props or maybe you could ask guests to bring their own props. Would your guests like karaoke? At our wedding, during one of the songs our DJ gave us a mic and we passed it around and sang. It was a lot of fun. Obviously, you couldn't do it like that but you could have individuals go onto the dance individually and do karaoke. I saw photos our venue posted on Facebook of a wedding a few months ago and the bride and groom hired an artist to draw caricatures of their guests. I also did a quick Google search and some recommendations I found were hiring a comedian, board games, crafts, or a slideshow with photos of you and your fiance. I honestly think there a lot of fun and unique things that you could include rather than dancing.

I think it's time to break out the big group games! (With plenty of hand sanitizer.)

Everything from the shoe game to bingo to trivia to simon says (you could probably adapt that to tabled/distanced pretty easily).

    Good luck!

Seems strange that they would allow close spotlight dancing but nothing else. That said, if people don't dance, usually they chat and many love the chance to catch up. You could also play games such as Shoe Game or Newlywed Game.

I agree that there’s lots of receptions that already don’t do dancing. Guests will find ways of mingling amongst themselves

Most of the weddings I’ve been to did not have dancing. Just talking, mingling and fellowship. Don’t plan too much that you don’t have time to talk with your guests.
