covid is affecting my 2021 Reception...

Christina, on June 10, 2020 at 10:31 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 5

So I was able to move my wedding celebration to 2021 and will be doing a zoom ceremony this year. Only my parents and siblings and our officiant and photographer will be present physically. My guest are excited! Here’s the problem I have.
My venue has made a new contract and even tough my celebration is July 2021 they changed the capacity limit. I was going to have roughly 150-179 guest but need to cut down to max 130...
I didn’t want to cut anyone out/uninvited my wedding but I can’t get my deposit back ... what do I do ? I have not told anyone the date of the reception yet. Only the bridal party and of course my parents and his.

The thing is that there’s a likelihood not everyone can make your new date anyway.
The other idea is if you can cut out kids?

How much is the deposit? Honestly, I’d cut the list because unless the deposit was only a few hundred dollars I couldn’t imagine throwing away the money AND having to find a new venue. 😩

I’d cut the list and avoid having to seek a new venue and compete with all of the other postponing couples. Not worth the time and stress when that’s the original venue you wanted.

I would cut the list, especially if you haven't sent STDs or invites yet. If the people being cut don't know they were on the list to begin with, they won't be offended (that sounds mean, but I really mean that you won't burn bridges or hurt feelings). Can you cut kids?

You can invite more than 130, but really if more RSVP than you're expecting, then you'll be stuck with more people than the venue will allow. It's really risky, unless you know without a doubt that a certain number of people won't come.

Almost all venues are altering their capacity - it's just reality. I'd trim the list. It is just what needs to be done.
