Covid: How to uninvited people for a smaller ceremony?!?

Alyssa, on June 4, 2020 at 12:51 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 5
So we haven’t sent out invitations and because of Covid didn’t send out save the dates. We decided to do a much smaller wedding and have a bigger reception when it clears up. It is about time to send out invitations and there are soooo many people I really wanted at my wedding but for the safety of everyone my fiancé and I decided to do a family and bridal party only wedding. I am heart broken that certain people won’t be included. I’m thinking about also live streaming the wedding, but I don’t know how to handle this and it sucks because I want them there!!! (My family is who I could do with out) any advice would be wonderful!!

My cousin just did something similar. They sent invitations to the guest who were physically attending. Then, they did a live stream of the wedding in a private Facebook event. You could send virtual invites to those you are inviting to join you virtually. You could also mention that you are planning a larger celebration later that they will be invited to celebrate with you at.

I downsized my wedding from 200 to about 50. I ordered regular invitations for the 50, and then I made some “invitations” that said “celebrate with us” at the top. They also said “you are invited to participate in the wedding of ____ and ____ at a safe distance.” Then I gave the link to our website where there is more info about the livestream and also a little drive-thru thing we’re doing.
Basically, I tried to word it as “you’re invited to the livestream” rather than “you’re not invited to the wedding at all” if that makes sense! Just be really intentional and make sure it’s kind, but still clear that they’re not invited to actually physically be there.

My daughter and her fiance are getting married July 18th on our family farm. It was to be a 200+ guests wedding. It is now down to just the bride and groom's siblings, parents, and grandparents (22 total).Covid: How to uninvited people for a smaller ceremony?!? 1

On their first anniversary they plan a vow renewal ceremony and a big reception. These are the announcements we sent out.

I'm going down the same route of having to disinvite majority of our guests. My wedding is in September but the thought of cancelling gave me the chills so we have decided to continue with our wedding and live stream to our friends and family who aren't able to make it. Similar to Lindsey I changed up my website to be focused on the live stream so those guests that aren't able to make it are able to attend virtually through Lovecastapp. If you're having some trouble decided in how to live stream is pretty easy. There are so many apps out there to use but some cost money and they have low quality with limited streaming minutes. I was a bit torn between zoom and lovecastapp since everyone is talking about zoom but I didn't want to spend much money on this since I'm not 100% sure everyone will be attending. Lovecastapp is free with unlimited streaming minutes and umlimited guest viewers. All you need is a $20 tripod from amazion and someone who will be helping you stream it. I have chosen my brother since he has a good eye with the camera. Hope this helps Smiley smile
