Covid Gift Etiquette

Kam, on August 4, 2020 at 8:50 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7
I am attending a wedding ceremony in a few weeks for a family member whose larger reception and vow renewal has been postponed to next year.

Do I give a gift this year at the mini ceremony or do I wait until the larger celebration next year?

I’d probably more inclined to give a gift (monetary or tangible) this year and a card (maybe with a small monetary gift if you feel inclined) next year.

It's totally up to you. I'd give a gift now because that's when they're actually getting married, but if you want to wait until next year, that's fine too. Also, unless the wedding is at tge couple's house or you're giving something that can fit in an envelope, just have the item shipped to the couple. No one wants to bring a toaster (or set of plates or whatever) home from their wedding.

I would gift now, and not at the bigger reception. No need to gift twice.

The now wedding is the important part, and if you hold onto your gift, the couple may not know its coming later.

Etiquette is the same for Covid. Give a gift at the smaller legal celebration this year. You can give a card next year but it's not required since you will have already given a gift.

Maybe gift half this year & half next year.

Either one is fine. Since so few went to this ceremony to see the real thing , a gift from you now would likely be most appreciated.
