covid Disinvites?

Angelica, on April 17, 2020 at 1:38 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 3
We live in Southern California and our wedding date is 10.10.2020. While we are hopefully we will be able to have our 100 person backyard wedding, I’m still thinking of plans B and C.

Plan B is to have a smaller 50 person wedding, hoping that at least that will be allowed by October.
However we already sent save the dates to all 100 guests. How would you go about basically “disinviting” 50 people?
I was thinking of mailing something that said “due to COVID and state regulations, we are forced to have a more intimate ceremony. While we really wanted to celebrate with everyone, we cannot” but that’s still vague on hey you aren’t invited anymore...

You would need to tell them that due to COVID-19 you are having an intimate wedding and will no longer be able to invite them to the wedding. Send this out just to the people you sent a STD to who are no longer invited. Hopefully they will be understanding.

I agree with PP. We just ordered STDs and began asking people for their addresses. However, my fiance and I have decided to scale down somewhat to be proactive. Now, we have to go back and tell some people who are expecting STDs that we can no longer invite them. I’ve already made a few phone calls and people seem to be understanding.

Maybe pick a date in 2021 that you could have a "reception" for those who could not attend. It could be an informal cook-out (and you can call it that so people don't feel obligated to bring gifts or dress up), and you can share wedding photos and/or video with people at that time. I think people will understand and appreciate that you still want to have a chance to celebrate with them when the time is right.
