Covid Announcement

Elaine, on August 20, 2021 at 11:02 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 10
Please leave your comment, advice or suggestion for our planned wedding website announcement. Thank you all!

The health and safety of our wedding guests is our top priority. Vaccines protect everyone. We are therefore requesting for all guests to adhere to these CDC-recommended health measures:

• People attending are requested to be fully vaccinated, symptoms-free and tested negative for COVID within the last 2 weeks prior to to the wedding day. There'll be people attending who are particularly vulnerable, and it's important for us to help them attend. That's the reason we are asking for your help.

• To children and adult who are unable to be vaccinated, one test in the 24-hour period before the wedding is sufficient.

• During the ceremony and reception, we ask that you respect and social distance from other household, wear mask over the nose and mouth except for eating and drinking and sanitize often. Masks and sanitizers are provided to each guests.

We appreciate your support and understanding.

So question, since you are requiring every guests to get tested - are you requiring proof of those test results? Also, I think requiring children/unvaccinated guests to be tested within the 24 hour time period is a bit much. Only because that means that they will have to get a rapid test which is not the most reliable test anyways. So those results possibly could be wrong.

I think the rest of the wording is fine though!

I say to change the 24 hour testing rule to the week of the wedding. That’s what I did for my wedding. Especially now when cases are up and testing sites are packed. My husband and I spent one Saturday driving to multiple sites just to find a place that wasn’t jam packed with people lined up to get a test to attend a family dinner. We went to 4 places all who said they’re systems were backed up. We ended up having to buy the Ellume at home covid test and taking it in our car. We also offered on-site testing at our venue and paid for a doctor to be on-site for 5 hours so guests who may have had delayed results or forgot to test can have it done on-site. (Also take in the chance for results to be delayed due to back up systems. Another reason to widen your testing window. The college I work at mandates testing every week. So 7 days for PCR.)
Will there be someone to screen results or vaccination cards? Our venue could no longer do this for us once the state mandate only required large weddings of 100 or more to be screened at the door so we had to set up a Dropbox link to allow guests to submit their results or vaccination status. We got married on a Friday and opened the link for guests to use on that Monday.

I also wanted to point out where I find your guidelines to be a bit tricky and I can see guests getting two messages, you stated vaccination were a must but then have a section for those unable to vaccinate. People may take this as vaccinations being optional since there’s a section if you’re unable to vaccinate without any clear reasonings for not being able to. If you really want vaccines to be required, for the section that says to the adults and children unable to be vaccinated I would include something like “due to medical recommendations from your physician or not having a vaccine yet available in your age group then a negative covid test is needed.” Guests could also lie and say they’re doctor advised against it so if you wanted to take it a step further and request it in writing which could be a bit much and off putting.I made a covid wedding safety letter using the wedding wire template and sent to guests a month out since they didn’t visit my website and were missing so much information. It’s pretty detailed if you’re interested in seeing it I can private message it to you. Let me know☺️

The wording is a bit confusing to me. What are they respecting in the last bullet?

During the ceremony and reception we ask that you follow social distancing guidelines, avoid contact with others not in your household, and wear a mask (except when actively eating or drinking). Masks and sanitizer will be provided.

This part is confusing to me: People attending are requested to be fully vaccinated, symptoms-free and tested negative for COVID within the last 2 weeks prior to to the wedding day

You want vaccinated people to have proof of vaccination and a negative covid test? It seems like over kill to me. However, now that vaccinated people can pass the delta variant I understand your reasoning. However, getting a covid test 14 days prior to an event is pretty useless. In 14 days, people could come into contact with so many people. I'd change the COVID test to 72 hours and require that it's a PCR test.

Otherwise I think it looks great.

Hi Yasmine! Thank you so much for your response.

Im still figuring out how to ask for proof of both testing and vaccination cards. Text, email, thru website.
I know it will be tough to require people to get tested within 24 hours and no matter how close to the wedding we test people, they may still get expose to the virus. 72 hours maybe doable.
    Thank you again

I will change the 24hr testing requirement, change ghe wordings so its not confusing and maybe ask guests to email or text me their vaccination cards. Its a small wedding and i think its doable.

I agree with what others said about changing the testing requirement for unvaccinated people to 72 hours. I'd probably just get rid of the testing requirement for vaccinated people and emphasize the, "don't come if you have symptoms because you could still be contagious," part.
Assuming you have a wedding website, it might help if you offered links for where people can find testing appointments near them. We didn't require testing -or proof of vaccination- but we did recommend vaccines at every point of contact (we also knew that >90% of the adults on our list had already received theirs), but we did put links on our website to make it easy for anyone who hadn't done so to find/make themselves a vaccine appointment.
