covid and your venue

Kaitlyn, on April 15, 2020 at 9:07 AM Posted in Community Conversations 1 10
For my fellow brides whose weddings were derailed due to covid, what experiences are you having with your venue/hotel? Are they honoring the original contract? New contract with new terms? Charging rescheduling fees? Does it make a difference if the wedding takes place in 2020 v. 2021? Thanks in advance for any input!

I just reached out to some vendors yesterday about possibly postponing our August wedding. I reached out to the venue, DJ, and photographer. They all said they will be honoring the original contract and original price. They are not going to charge me a few to reschedule and I will keep 2019 pricing even if we end up pushing the date back to 2021.
That being said I'm not sure that all vendors are going to be as flexible as I've seen some stories where people are paying more or losing deposits due to needing to postpone. Did you reach out to your vendors yet just to see what they are doing during this time?

My venue was great! We rescheduled from late May to late August. We ended up having to choose a Sunday because they didn't have any Saturdays available. They ended up lowering our minimum because that's what they typically offer for Sunday events.

We didn't have any interest in moving the wedding to next year.

The hotel on the other hand is a pain. Most of their employees have been furloughed, so it has been very difficult to get any help from them. We don't have the new room blocks worked out yet, but hopefully we get some movement on that in the next few days.

EVERYONE from the venue to the hotel with the room blocks have been AMAZING. We are very lucky to have chosen the vendors we did last year. We were able to move our wedding to later this year so that might be the difference, but I'm pretty sure they all agreed to retain their 2020 pricing.

I have reached out to my vendors yes. The only vendor not honoring the current contract is my venue (also a hotel)

Our vendors have been great! All have transferred the date without a fee or change in the contract...our venue charged us a $1500 “postponement fee” not too happy about it but better than cancelling and lose $15k in deposits to the venue

With my venue- they were great and accommodating. They would charge more for postponing to 2021 so we did have to choose a date in 2020. They didn't have a lot of options for dates but not really their fault. We did sign a new contract for the new date and we added language in case we had to postpone again that really took into account the pandemic.

With my vendors- I did sign new contracts with them with the new date.

    Hi Kaitlyn,

I'd definitely reach out to your hotel to start talking through your options and what plan b could look like so you're ready to go if you do need to change your plans.

We've gathered some tips and resources you can check out here: COVID-19 Wedding Support Central.

    I hope this helps!

Our venue Waterloo Village in Stanhope NJ has actually been really accommodating to brides needing to change dates. My wedding is scheduled for end of August so we are assuming we are good however we did receive an email regarding the issue of postponing. All the salespeople at our venue are available to chat if need be since they are working remotely. I believe you can reschedule to a date within 60 days of your date with no fee. All prices remain the same as the contract you signed when booking even if you end up having your wedding in 2021. As long as you notify them within 14 days of your event that you want to postpone there will be no charge/penalty. I think it’s great how accommodating the venue and their company JAM Catering has been even though we probably won’t postpone you never really know with these crazy times so I’m happy to know my venue will work with us if need be.

My original wedding date was 5/10/20, we were able to postpone to June 2021 without any issues. We have a garden venue. All our vendors were very understanding and accommodating; no extra fees. Contracts with new dates were made.
