Covid and Venue date change

Britt, on July 24, 2020 at 10:20 AM Posted in Community Conversations 1 18

Can anyone help. My wedding has been affected and the Homewood in Asheville won’t adjust their fee or refund my deposit, what have others done in this situation? The only option they are offering at this time is letting us post-phone 6 Months with no charge. After that they are charging us. Being my wedding is in Mid Sept, covid won’t be gone in March and it will be a different climate etc.

Is your wedding affected because of the venue or by choice? If it's the venue, then they should be refunding you. I'd take a good look at your contract especially the small print.

Covid. Allowing only 50 guests (i have 60-70) no dancing. can have DJ for background music purposes only. They are selling it to me as a “intimate dinner” for 20k. Sigh

Were you always contracted for 60-70? If so, then they have to keep to the contract.

Actually contracted for 70-80. Contract states that the deposit is not refundable and I’ve already paid 5k.

You could try fighting that they aren’t upholding the contract which states 70-80, but I’m not sure how much luck people are having with getting back non-refundable deposits. Technically the venue is working with you given the situation with Covid, even though they aren’t really offering options you like. Trying to fight it legally will probably cost more than the deposit. I know at least one person had luck getting deposits back by posting honest reviews about what happened to them with Covid.

And they can't fulfill because of state guidelines, I'd take this higher.

Any chance they will allow more than 50 guests and dancing once we go into phase 3?

But regarding our concern, I agree with what Margaret is saying. Your contract states 70-80 guests, which they are not fulfilling.

It's so hard to tell Smiley amazing . I think the Governor is supposed to make a decision next week, so based on what he says then, I think that will give us an accurate depiction of what is to come.

I can say that I have not been having luck getting back deposits after having to cancel our reception. I know a lot of people in the wedding industry are suffering but it's insane to hold people accountable when we are being forced into this situation because of a pandemic. It's like kicking us while we are down. My wedding is already not what I wanted but now you're going to keep the thousands of dollars I've already paid you for a service you didn't perform.

Holysh*t, we actually toured homewood and talked about doing our wedding there, I’m sorry they are like that, we are thinking about ditching our deposit at our current venue and do a even smaller micro wedding locally...

No, but we got engaged in Asheville, so my fiancé wanted our wedding there. Our current venue let us postponed to December this year, and if we wanted to do next year we would pay reschedule fee and 2021 price which will double the price.

Can I ask what you mean by after that they will charge you? Like if you postpone til March, then postpone again they are going to charge to move it? Honestly I think that moving to March is the best option you have unless you want to cancel and lose your deposits. Its unfortunately the situation everyone is in right now Smiley sad
