Covid-19 - What should we do?

Genesis, on March 17, 2020 at 5:02 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 14

My fiance and I are here in Memphis, TN, and our date currently is still May 6th of this year. Health professionals are advising to avoid gatherings of 50 and over for the next 8 weeks. Our school is currently closed for the next 2 weeks, churches aren't meeting, and businesses are slowly closing for the time being. None of our vendors have contacted us about postponing or cancelling anything.

What should we do? We're expecting about 100 guests, or a little under. The only thing that isn't paid in full is the food for the reception. We're trying to wait it out and see what action needs to be taken, but should we risk waiting for things to potentially get worse?

Don't know what to do...

The general advice on here will probably be that it's a personal choice but also a public safety concern. Not only are you putting your guests at risk, they might pick something up and carry it with them to spread elsewhere. Talk to your vendors and come up with a plan b. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this! And the sooner you decide to go ahead and postpone, the easier it'll be. A lot of brides are already seeing most of the fall dates filling up.

Hey there. My wedding is May9th with about 125 guests. It is a large open space, all outside venue, so not compact spaces, that's a good thing.

I am just following up with my venue and vendors and everyone is taking the extra precautions to remain healthy. They have been so great through out these crazy past few days.

Around April 9th is when I will think about moving in. My hopes (like everyone) is that things will not get worse. I know this week will get worse, but after that, my prayer is that things will settle down.

I am getting married in middle of no where GA so im not in a hot spot city either nor do I have any elders guests (3 grandparents that might not be able to make it or only come to the ceremony). I would say its personal choice. get it touch with your vendors, for your venue think about the space, is it open or a tight area? and I would wait until 4 weeks out to make your decision because by may 6th, things for sure could get better, no one knows!

You should postpone. The health of your family and friends is more important than your wedding and they shouldn't be forced to choose between the two.

Given your date is within the 8 week recommendation for strict social distancing, you may hear from vendors in the next few days to week. Our reception vendor team is working on a plan of action and are working on contacting brides and grooms with weddings in the next 8 weeks. I'm sure those with sooner wedding are contacted first.

It is going to look like it will get worse for the next weeks before we will see the light at the end of the tunnel. Before making any absolute decisions, I would give it some time to see if you end up hearing from you vendors and to see how the situation may stabilize.

We haven’t really discussed a Plan B just yet, so we will definitely do that.

    Hi
Have you made a decision about your wedding yet? I am in Memphis as well with my date coming up in 3 weeks. I plan to call the venue again this week to determine if I need to postpone.

My venue is kinda forcing me to postpone. I just got an email about a week and a half ago 😓. I’m glad all of the planning is officially done, but now we have to get with our bridal party and try to align dates and schedules...

Thanks for responding. I have decided to keep my ceremony but push the reception to late June. The ceremony is an intimate group of just our parents and siblings so need to alter. Good luck finding a date that that works for all. Best wishes on your upcoming marriage

Ok, awesome. We ended up moving the entire public ceremony and reception to August 14th, but we are still getting married on May 6th. And thank you, same to you!
