Covid 19 wedding and vow renewal

Nicole, on July 6, 2020 at 5:51 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 16
So my fiancé and I had everything planned to get married this year on October 10th. We have decided to change our plans. We are still going to be getting married but the only guests will be the bridal party, our parents, our siblings, our kids, and us. We plan on having this in our back yard on October 10th,2020. We are now in the process of moving all our vendors to a new date of October 9th,2021 for a vow renewal and reception. In hopes that everyone we want there will be able to attend by then.

My question is should I wear my wedding dress the day we get married or the day of our vow renewal? I have another dress that I bought as a back up dress.

Date twins! So we are in the exact same boat getting married in the backyard on the 10 and having our big wedding moved to next year. I’m not going to wear my dress. I wanted to keep some stuff special for the big wedding like the dress our first dance. Toasts and speeches etc. I know Personally if I did all that at the small wedding o would say screw it and want to cancel the other one I still want the other to be special and be the wedding so we are saving all the good stuff for it.

That’s a tough call. We could end up getting married sooner just with our parents due to FMIL’s health, and IDK what to do in that regard. I would love to wear my dress twice, but I also want it to be a surprise.

I'm wearing my dress for our elopement ceremony and for next year's bigger wedding. We're also having our first dance and cake/toasts.

We still wanted to keep our original date. However we couldn’t have everyone there. Especially my side of the family which are all out of state except my mom and brother. So we are having a small ceremony and then dinner and yard games. Then next year we will renew our vows and have a big reception after. I’m leaning towards saving my wedding dress for next year and wearing my back up dress for the mini ceremony.

Are you having the toasts, first dance, and cake at both?

Yes I want the dress to be a surprise but I only want to wear it once so if he sees me in it at our mini ceremony then I won’t wear it at the vow renewal.

I wasn’t super big on wearing a dress to being with, I’m wearing jeans and a white blouse to our little ceremony! That is exactly what we are doing little backyard ceremony and lawn games. I would save your dress.

Yes we're doing it at both. I know it might seem redundant but we were really disappointed we couldn't have outlr big wedding this year and we just want to incorporate some of the more traditional elements into it.

I'm going to wear my dress twice - I keep saying as soon as the wedding happens, I'm going to wear it around the house just because!

I enjoyed your comment so much! I feel
The exact same way. I had to put mine in a separate room in the house so I don’t take it out every day😂

I’m extra so I’d probably wear it both times, lol!

We did the same thing-small ceremony this year, big reception next year with original guest list. I wore my dress this year because we did photos this year and I wanted my dress in photos. I will probably wear it again next year-I’m gonna take advantage of a chance to wear my dress twice!

Yes!! Same here. I want to get my money's worth and I'd usually only wear it once anyway.

I bought my dress last August on a whim and just tried it on for the first time since then - now I'm even more excited to wear it!

That’s a good point, and the more I think about doing a mini ceremony I think I like the idea of wearing something lighter and more flowy for the occasion.
