Covid-19 Honeymoon

Alexandra, on July 17, 2020 at 6:03 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 9
I know I'm not alone in the fact that the current environment has changed our honeymoon plans. Currently, we have a cruise booked with Royal Caribbean that is set to sail November 2. They have cancelled cruises up until October 1, so i have little hope at this point that our cruise will take place as scheduled. So my first question is should I wait for the cruise line to officially cancel or should I proactively cancel? Im worried that if I wait that we won't be able to plan a different honeymoon in time.
I also need some ideas as far as alternative trips. Our backup plan is getting a cabin in Gatlinburg, which sounds romantic enough given that I love the mountains. But idk, I've been super excited about our cruise and now it probably won't happen so I'm disappointed. I would love to hear some other destination ideas

We’re set to cruise November 22-29 and we aren’t changing anything unless we have to.
Carnival has been super awesome about communicating to their customers and if we have to do something different, we will know far enough in advance.

I'm thinking about moving the cruise to next year. We wouldn't lose our deposit and the chances of getting to go on the cruise without issues with the virus are a lot better.

I love cruising. We actually had a group cruise planned for March. But that was obviously canceled. It was rescheduled to December 2020 but now I’m still a bit hesitant. Maybe you should wait a little more to see how life plays out (perhaps until mid September) and make a decision at that time.

We were in a pretty similar scenario as you! Our honeymoon cruise was booked for January and our wedding is in October. I so desperately wanted the cruise to happen but even if they allow cruises by then, I don’t think I want to be on a cruise ship with all those people. I also know that if it ended up getting cancelled last minute we probably wouldn’t have a honeymoon at all. We decided to cancel and forfeit $100 so we could go ahead and plan a more intimate honeymoon right after the wedding. We booked a cabin on Airbnb in the smoky mountains! So even if the world is still in chaos, we can still have a romantic getaway. We are hoping to book an even better cruise for our 1 year anniversary!

Your comment was so helpful! My husband just told me to go ahead and cancel the cruise. I'm thinking we can just move it to next year sometime. I'm so glad we aren't alone in booking a smoky mountains honeymoon!

I feel this would be your best bet. Getting a cabin is a lovely idea.

A cabin will be SUPER romantic and secluded! We were also supposed to cruise with RCCL around the same time and are waiting on the loyalty desk for some answers. We have had 3 cruises cancel so far, however, we are frequent cruisers and sail 3-4 a year on average. They have been able to move funds from one sailing to the next and at this rate, we will have our spring break cruise (my kids) paid off without actually paying anything towards that sailing. FH and I are also considering a cabin mini-moon and a Caribbean honeymoon a month or so later. We are now getting married in December 2020 and a winter cabin would be so romantic. I'm team mountain cabin now, cruise later!

Thank you so much for your input! Ultimately that's what we decided on. I've been looking and there's tons of romantic things to do in gatlinburg. We can get a private masseuse to come to our cabin and give massages, horseback riding, wine tasting, and many other things. Theres this fancy restaurant on the mountain top called a Christopher Place that would be perfect for dinner. We are also going in November, so a private cabin in the mountains with all the fall colors changing sounds incredibly romantic and beautiful
