covid 19 event insurance

Aimee, on August 10, 2020 at 10:23 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 5

My fiancee and I booked our wedding and the very beginning of July knowing full well that we would be planning a COVID wedding. The family who is helping us pay for the wedding asked that we get event insurance that would cover my fiancee and in the event that we got the virus on our wedding day. I have been looking for insurance like this, but because the presence of the pandemic is widely known, I am having trouble finding the insurance we want. Does anyone know if this insurance is available? If so, who can I get it through?

I’ve noticed that many insurances aren’t covering things dealing with COVID. Many of them will cover in case of a sickness, but I haven’t seen anything covering if it’s cancelled because of Covid

You can still purchase a wedding insurance policy, but unfortunately no one will cover anything even remotely related to COVID at this time for new policies.

Most insurance companies no longer cover Covid-19.

My partner & I are in the same boat—planning a late summer wedding for 2021. We’ve been insisting on clear postponement & cancellation policies (including any fees or limitations) in the contract & refusing to book vendors that won’t add language for it. This of course doesn’t help with the fact that not every vendor may be available on the same postponed date, so we’ve already decided our backup plan, which will prioritize the most expensive vendors & try to use the cheaper ones in another way on the original date.

We’re also trying to strategize payment plans so that we pay as close to the date as possible, and trying to book vendors that are less of a priority later on (for us, that’s florist, hair, & makeup).
On top of that, we are planning on getting insurance, but to cover us for things like bad weather, injury/surgery, or non-COVID illness...but I haven’t looked into this yet & am not sure if all of that will be covered!

I booked our insurance after Covid became known and I bought it through Wedsure. At the time they were the only company offering any kind of postponement or cancellation insurance. They do not cover anything due to Covid - but hurricanes, snowstorm, non-Covid illness should be covered. I don't expect any kind of business closure to be covered.
