Covid-19 and zooming in for at-risk people

Karen, on October 15, 2020 at 12:46 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

I am trying not to stress but we postponed our wedding from September 13, 2020 to May 16th 2021 naively thinking that things will be back to normal by that time but it does not look that way. We are keeping the new date however my future MIL is fearful about the virus as she is going to be 80 years old and has COPD and other health issues and I totally accept that and my FH seems to be okay with zooming her in as well. I want to be prepared for a hybrid wedding as we have her and others who may be uncomfortable or moving the whole thing outside (weather permitting).

Our ceremony will be held outside and we can have her come to the ceremony if it's held outside (weather permitting) . We live in Colorado and May could have lovely weather for the most part but we have had some snow storms. We are in our 50's so I am past the fairytale wedding of my 20's and 30's so I am okay with a smaller hybrid wedding too as long as I marry the love of my life. My question is how would I set up a zoom to include my future MIL and others without having to hire a videographer? Do you have other ideas about making it festive like providing cake or food? I love to hear ideas.

You can have a guest zoom her during the ceremony using their cell phone. Providing cake or food would be very nice of you.

My Godparents (both of my parents have passed...so they are the parental figures in my life) cannot attend our wedding because of COVID. We are having my sister's fiance be our ZOOM host. We have some other guests that have opted for virtual as well (and some that were cut when we had to decrease our guest list that have approached us and asked if we have a virtual option available). I'm sending cupcakes home with my brother for my godparents and working on options for treats for the other virtual guests.

I attended a wedding via zoom and one of the guests used his cell phone.

Create a Facebook group for your guests and stream the ceremony and important parts of the celebration on Facebook live! It records so you can watch it over and over and you can see comments after!

We streamed our ceremony on Facebook Live from my cell phone for those we couldn't invite. My SIL was kind enough to hold the phone and my dad got it when it ended to give his own spin afterwards. Our friends and family loved it and even folks I didn't expect to watch were able to!

As far as making it festive for those that can't be there in person, maybe send a party pack with the favors, an individually wrapped cupcake (or similar) and a silk flower that matches your decor/bouquet.
