Covid-19 and deposits

Melissa, on April 7, 2020 at 9:35 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 5
I had one of my wedding vendors be completely unreasonable for rescheduling due to covid-19. may wedding day was originally May 9, and I had a ceremony set up at their location. When the state mandate stated all non-essential businesses must close their response was “we are not rescheduling weddings until there is a government mandate stating gatherings cannot occur.” They only cared about their bottom line: money.
They’re a really small location in a small town, and their new availability included Thursdays, Sundays, a couple of Fridays and one Saturday that was on a holiday: July 4. All of my vendors up charge to have a wedding on a holiday.
On the contrary, my reception location is in the heart of Grand Rapids, had several different Saturdays for availability and was super willing to accommodate.
Has anyone else had this issue? It’s completely heart breaking to have to loose out on a significant deposit - and scramble to find a new venue.

My photographer has no dates in September or October on a Saturday but won’t tell me my financial obligation until I have a firm date-still working on it. He hasn’t reach out, no follow up nothing. He’s kinda making me more than ticked beyond words. I understand people have mouths to feed but give me a break.

Also, the cdc as of March 15 recommended no gatherings of 50 or more. I’d go see them in person and make sure you look sick, cough a lot, etc. Urghhhh!

    Leslie,
My photographer is opening up her availabilities on Saturday’s to doing multiple weddings- and hiring extra help!! She’s been a complete dream!! I am so sorry you’re having issues, it’s so heart breaking to have people only think of the numbers they are making, not the memories (good or bad!!). I hope you find some relief soon!

I mean each state has different laws right now, but there are ZERO weddings in my state. County and municipal buildings are closed so no court house weddings & any gatherings over 10 people are illegal for the time being. Check to see what your states regulations are for gatherings.

What Alex said. Here in Texas, things are shut down. I think that venue is being completely unreasonable, but if they are a small venue then they might have to do that to protect their existence. That being said, all of my vendors have been dreams. My makeup artist asked for a deposit on the new date, but I was willing to eat that cost because I love her. Our venue definitely saw the writing on the wall and let us move the date without a fuss. Check your contracts, see if they have a force majeure clause.

    Hi Melissa,

I'm very sorry to hear that your ceremony venue is being difficult about rescheduling your date. I agree with the previous responses. I hope you can work it out with them or find a new place to get married.

Is it an option to have your ceremony at your reception venue? Since they're being supportive of postponing, I wonder if they could help you with a solution to this issue.

I wish you the best of luck with finding a resolution! Smiley heart
