Covid-19 and 2021 Brides

Alexis, on June 2, 2020 at 2:47 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6

I'm getting married March 6th, 2021. I'm slightly nervous there will be a second wave of COVID-19 this fall into winter/spring 2021. Any other brides nervous there will be a second wave affecting their wedding next year?

Hi Alexis! I definitely have been worrying myself but I am just taking it one step at a time. I continue the back and forth of do we keep planning and see what happens or do we hold off and wait and run the risk of things booking up? I totally get it. However, my supportive fiancé and family continue to tell me that everything will work out. If you want to postpone, do it. If you need to cancel, do it. If you want to have your wedding and maybe run the risk of having no one show up but you still get to marry the love of your life the day you wanted, do it. I think we all just need to do what’s best for us and just know that we are not in control and worrying about it isn’t going to help. We are going to continue planning and pray for the best. It will all work out and we will get married someway somehow. Wish you the best sweet bride! 💜

Thank you for the kind words, Alyssa! I've continued planning as normal in hopes everything will be okay. I just have my doubts every once in awhile.

My friend just moved their wedding from September 2020 to March 2021. But I wonder if that’s far enough out. Our wedding is scheduled for October 2020 and if we have to postpone, then we’ll push it to October 2021. I figure that if covid is still a situation this Fall, then I don’t want to risk a spring wedding.... because I refuse to postpone twice.

Hopefully life is better by the spring!

My wedding was scheduled for 4.3.21. I ended up cancelling as my first installment for the venue was approaching and the unknown of a wave 2 terrified me, especially with all the horror stores out there. I will say- you should ask your vendors now what will happen if a wave 2 occurs and also you have the most control when money is still due versus when it’s all paid up. Crossing my fingers for you that there’s no wave 2, but doesn’t hurt to cover your bases if you’re going to keep your date!

Just postponed from July to May 2021. Of course I am worried, but I am nowhere near as concerned as I just was about holding a wedding this July. The wedding had to be postponed to next year and we had to do it within a calendar year. All the June and July dates were taken, so we took as late as possible into May without running into Memorial Day weekend. I think a second wave is certainly going to be possible, but I am hoping that we learn a lot over the next year on how to manage coronavirus better and how wedding events can be safely held.

Plan away, just have a plan B and set reminders for when payments are due. I had to alter my plans and get my deposits back last minute.

If you are okay with having a more intimate ceremony, there are some AirBnB/VRBO options that are cheaper than venues and have more flexible cancellations in most cases. I am getting married in 18 days at a VRBO with beach access that has a 14 day full refund policy!
