Cover up makeup for my mom's poor arms

Megan, on May 24, 2012 at 11:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

My mother has some fairly dark red/purple spots on her arms that she is quite self conscience of. They have formed because of all the steroids she has had to take has made her skin very thin. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on makeup that might be able to cover up these spots it well, it would be greatly appreciated. We have heard they make makeup to cover tattoos... anyone every tried that or have a brand they like? Thanks!

I haven't tried any myself, but I did see that Davids bridal carries a set. I think it was around $30

I would say tattoo cover up. I got one at the mall once a few years back but i cant remember where or what it was called. it would have worked if it was the right color for my skin. good luck. also i have seen it at davids bridal

Try Derma blend. You can find it in Macy's for about $20.00 a bottle.

I have scars and i just bought derma blend. If you go to Ulta she can try on the shade that matches her.

I was going to recommend Derma blend too. I haven't used it yet, but I have heard great things about it. I plan to get some for the stretch marks I have after losing 50 pounds.

I know MAC makes a concealer that people use to cover up tattoos and scars as well..you might want to check that out bc she can get 2 uses out of it most likely

Most of the concealers such as the ones from MAC, will soften and melt off from the heat of your skin. Dermablend is a bit tougher, but when I do cover ups for tattoos, I use a professional brand of makeup designed for underwater and special effects use. It's the only thing that doesn't transfer off to clothing or people.

Mac won't work well on it. i have scars on my arm and they are a reddish color and the conceiler lightens a bit, but they are still quite noticeable. plus, like stephanie said, they will sometimes melt off. it actually stayed on my arms fairly well but like i said, it did not cover very well

Ive herd that the tatoo stuff can work pretty well if you get the good stuff, sorry Im no help with specifics.

Would airbrushing work? For my friends wedding I had my shoulders done and it hid some scars pretty well

I took steroids for years and years, and I got the same problem. But my hubby told me to be confident to show my arms b/c I am always the most beautiful woman in his eyes. Smiley laugh . So I didn't do any coverup on my wedding day as I was also concerned the makeup will melt off or transfer off. Actually these will get it look worse... but if you can find a good pro one for your mom, try it. Good luck!

If you have a Sephora near you (or a store like it-like ulta) try them out. They have LOTS of different brands and they can provide you samples to test out.

I was so worried when I got married because I have a tattoo on my chest above my right breast (dumb decision I made at age 19. LOL)

I used Dermablend and it worked great. I purchased the cover up and the powder to go with it. They have so many different color options. And it didn't rub off all day! Here's a pic of hubby and I. Can you tell it's there?

Dermablend is pretty much the best stuff out there. One of my bridesmaids has severe scaring on her back that she was really concerned about, but with the dermablend you couldn't see a thing.

I have tried many different cover ups and a lot depends on where the area is that needs to be covered. Parts of the body may produce more sweat than others and certain areas are prone to be in contact with clothing or other people. The only thing I found that works 100% without transferring off is special effects makeup that is made for underwater filming.

It will take practice using any product to keep it looking like skin and not a big bruise. Several shades of concealer are needed so it won't end up looking like plastic. Definitely give it a run through and wear it around for the day so you can see how well it lasts.
