Cover chairs without using chair covers?

Maggie N, on June 26, 2012 at 6:03 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 15

Ok I really hate the white chairs in our ceremony room, but we have to use them. I also do not want to spend the money for covers for just 30 minutes of a ceremony. So I'm trying to come up with a creative way to "disguise" these somehow. For example: I thought about making our programs oversized, large enough to almost cover the back of the chair in front of you, and tying them on with raffia or something along those lines. Printing programs that big could pose a problem, so I'm wondering if anyone has any other cheap and adorable ideas? I've attached a picture of the chairs in the room how they will be set up- let me know what you think!

I agree with FMC, sashes are an inexpensive way to decorate the chairs.

Maybe you can buy a roll of tulle and tie a wide band of tulling around the back of each chair? Tulle is inexpensive!

Oh my gosh great ideas! I like the tulle idea, except I do not like tulle Smiley smile BUT I bet I could go to Joanne's Fabrics or somewhere along those lines and get a different kind of fabric. Also, love love love the ribbons M.S.P.! Thanks for the links!

JoAnns is awesome! We aren't covering our chairs but there are only 14 of them and it seems pointless when most of my people aren't going to mind Smiley smile LOL. Otherwise I would do Ribbons because I love ribbon.

Isn't it crazy how pricey those chair covers and sashes are when you buy them, though? I've seen them as high as $5 for a little bit of tulle or broadcloth... Somebody's making bank on those... Renting them seems even more expensive than buying.

Do keep in mind that at your ceremony, most of those chair will be occupied, thereby disguising them by people blockage!

I wonder if you would still get a good look if you covered only the back rows or center aisles? Seems kinda tedious and expensive to make something for literally every single chair if you're doing a flower/ribbon type thing.

Or, I really love this photo Ms P posted (sorry Ms P, I snagged your image) but you could do normal size programs to stuff in the pockets instead of the menu. ???

No worries Krisalicious. I liked the idea. you could actually hang the program on the back in the pocket or you could forget the pocket and just hang a large program there or pictures of the two of you. I like how personal you can get with that idea.

I think the center aisle is most important... it will compliment you as you walk down.

I love the photo idea too!

If you do something on the center aisle I would decorate the sides of the chairs instead of the back, so the decor shows up in the photos when people are seated.

Or maybe string a garland of some kind from the front to back? Then your guests just get seated from the sides. That way whoever gets their first gets a better seat, too, instead of having to scooch all the way down as others join their row.

(One of these is tulle and I don't love the flower one but just to turn your wheels.)

I would just do the center aisle and the back row...that's all that will show in your pics...and all that you will see walking down the aisle! Im not a fan of tulle either, but it does look really pretty especially when you mix a colored roll and a white roll. At Michaels they have a huge roll for about $15 and you could wait until a 40% coupon came and it would do all your aisle/back row chairs for under ten bucks!
