Cov-19 Brides and cancellations

Shelly, on March 16, 2020 at 1:43 AM Posted in Community Conversations 1 6

First I'd like to say how sorry I am this is happening to all of you. Such a nightmare after all the planning and anticipation.

If this was happening to my daughter, I would recommend to go ahead with the wedding on the original date with a small, intimate ceremony at the courthouse/church. They could then push the reception a year forward to their 1st anniversary and have the big celebration they intended. She could even wear her dress if she wanted to.

Life can be full of twists and turns that we must learn to roll with. This inconvenience will turn into a great family story someday. Hang in there.

This is precisely what I’m grappling with! Hopeful to have a small wedding still, perhaps in my dress and just immediate family and best friends, 10 people tops. Wondering if I should do it at the courthouse or at a local park (you don’t have to have a permit, I checked) and then getting a cake and going out to eat somewhere (if we’re allowed at this point)

My fh and i are for sure having the ceremony. For us, its very important to get married in church. The reception might have to wait. We are both seeing how this gets. A lot of places are closing, even schools. It's a lot to take to take in. My sister just said she can't cause of the virus. She's traveling and its a lot for her to risk. When she called, it just made it all too real. But i told my fh, as long as we get married, everything else is doesn't matter. But thank you for your post,

That's pretty much the boat we're in right now. We've originally planned a small ceremony (30 max) and have a big reception. Since I just got laid off my job until further notice because of the virus, we are now cancelling our big reception and will just go to a restaurant or something afterward. A 1 year anniversary reception actually sounds kind of nice. I'll definitely bring that up to FH.

This is a great idea and I have thought about this a lot recently. Our wedding is at the end of July so we have a little time but it seems this is going to last through the summer - hoping not. We also are getting married in NY - where I am from and all my family is - but we live in Georgia. Playing with the idea of, if we can't get to NY or need to cancel, just get married here in GA and have it live streamed for our guests to at least be able to see us get married and then plan a reception later. In the next month, I'm going to contact the venue to see what if anything can be refunded if they as a company stays closed. I am open to even negotiate another date for just the reception which would allow us to hopefully get a refund of some of some sort since we won't have a ceremony. Good luck couples!
