Cousin's wedding Update in comments!

KatieJade, on October 21, 2017 at 5:47 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 33

So we're just leaving my cousin's wedding ceremony. Seriously making me shake my head. They had their ceremony at county park and at first we were really nervous because October in Wisconsin could be awful. But it was beautiful out! Anyway, they had 13 chairs. For the 60ish people they invited. At least it was only about 30 minutes, but still I definitely would have appreciated a chair. So now we're headed to my aunt's since we have 2 hours until the cocktail hour starts.

Yikes. Hopefully the reception is much better than the ceremony

It was gorgeous today (we live near GB) but I would never feel comfortable planning an outdoor ceremony this late in the fall... And what the actual fu on the chairs. I hope the reception is redeeming.

Yea, they lucked out with the weather! I don't understand where the idea of not needing a seat for all guests, ever came from?!? Hopefully you have comfy shoes Smiley smile The gap isn't unheard of here but glad to see it not being as popular anymore. Enjoy the reception!

I'd be peeved if I had to unexpectedly stand for 30 minutes in uncomfortable heels...(making an assumption about uncomfortable heels, because that's what I always seem to wear to weddings). And a 2 hr gap?!

Any chance someone messed up somewhere with the chairs? That's sooooo Inconsiderate and mind-boggling if it was on purpose.

I think I might have been headed home at 5:47 PM, the time you posted your thread. Leaving half of the guests standing in a public park during a half an hour ceremony is rude enough, but a two hour gap at someone's house prior to a reception...no thanks. I'm not interested in starting to party at 8:00 PM after three hours of poor hosting. I'd leave my gift and go home.

No wedding is perfect, but renting chairs for a quarter of your guests and then building in a two hour gap? That is planning for imperfection.

There was a MN bride whose wedding was today and it was to be in a park, outside for three to four hours and no tents as of yet. Today in MN it was 66 degrees, cloudy, rainy and kinda cold. I hope she got tents!!!

OP - not enough chairs, two hour gap....let's see how reception goes!!

@bluevelvet That bride also was having her guests pay their way on their Stillwater river dinner cruise reception...

    Please update!!

I don't understand why this is so hard. Guests literally care about 3 things: food, booze, chairs. Everything else is icing on the cake.

@Danielle - I hate hate hate boat weddings. It is like a hostage situation....YOU CAN'T LEAVE. Look I dig you, happy you are happy but I don't want to spend six hours with you, with no alcohol, a loud band, teeny bathrooms and in MN it will be cold and or windy. I promise.

@bluevelvet I like the *idea* of boat weddings, though I can see how they could go horribly awry.

I'd hope a dinner cruise, especially one in MN, would have an indoor seating option...

The reception wasn't bad, there were plenty of chairs and food. And they provided beer and soda and they had a good dj! But there were like double the amount of people at the reception then what we saw at the ceremony. I felt bad for my aunt who randomly invited us over and thanked god my parents didn't ask to come to my messy apartment! Anyways it was fine just PLEASE if you're planning a wedding, just get everyone a chair!! And invite everyone to both the ceremony and the reception! Oh, and I wore flats because I recently had ankle surgery!
