Courthouse marriage next year ceremony

Ms., on October 2, 2019 at 4:49 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 4
Have a serious question to ask. Been fighting with myself about this dilemma. My wedding is set for June 2020 but my fiance wants to get married before then by going to the courthouse and still have our wedding ceremony in June. If we are to do this option how do we word the invitations and is it still appropriate for me to have my wedding party and wear my dress? Will it still have the same sentimental value?

As someone who has done something like this before, for me, it didn't have the same sentimental value afterwards. The additional ceremony felt more like a photo op and didn't feel like it had much meaning. That was me, though.

But you can always do it the same, have bridesmaids, the whole shebang. You'd word the invites as a celebration of your marriage and not as your wedding.

As far as wording, I would call it a vow renewal or celebration of marriage. Since it wouldnt really be an actual wedding at that point and you'll be married. But you can totally have the dress and whole shebang if you want!

You could have a vow renewal! I think it's more than okay to wear a traditional dress and have wedding parties!

I would call it a vow renewal if you get legally married beforehand. Or you could call it a celebration of marriage. However, to answer your other question, I do not think it will have the same meaning for you. We thought about doing this as well, but I’ve since veto’ed the idea after hearing multiple people who have done it say that it made their big weddings later just feel like an expensive party with no meaning behind it. I definitely want my wedding day to have that excitement of “omg I’m marrying my best friend today!”.... not feeling like it’s an expensive hassle. Several people on here have done it also and ended up cancelling the big wedding afterward because they wanted to save the money and didn’t see the point unfollowing through since they were already married. My advise?... really sit down & think about what is important to you. If you really want a wedding and to feel that excitement on that day, then I’d say to wait!
