Courtesy Room Block Hidden/odd Costs

Mary, on January 24, 2020 at 1:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone was asked to pay the taxes and fees of their hotel room block. It seemed a little odd to me, but I do know that sometimes they ask for payment on rooms that aren't reserved. We're working with what is supposed to be a courtesy block, so that's why I'm a little concerned about them asking us to pay for the taxes. I'd love thoughts and advice!

We didn't pay anything for our courtesy block. Guests would pay taxes & fees like any hotel reservation, but not us.

My FH worked in hotels for 14 years. some do ask but most dont ask for you to pay for the taxes. You can let them know that you'd like to be responsible for their taxes/fees/incidentals. Maybe they are asking as part of the contract.

Same as MrsD. Guests were responsible for all costs associated with their own stay.

I’ve been a hotel controller for 20 years and have never heard of breaking off just the taxes.

That sounds odd to me. My FH and I haven't had to pay anything for our room blocks. Our guests will pay for their room and any fees or taxes when they arrive. You shouldn't have to pay anything. If they want you to, I'd consider looking at another hotel to do your room blocks.
