Courtesy blocks

Lindsey, on August 2, 2017 at 5:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

We got this quote from a hotel we really liked that was close to our venue. But I'm not really sure what they are telling us in the email, I tried to look on line what courtesy blocks where, does that mean we have to have 15 blocks ok sat AND 20 on Saturday to get those prices ?

A courtesy block typically means that if you don't book the rooms by 8/11/17, that they become available for other guests who may want to stay at the hotel. With a courtesy block, you wouldn't be on the hook for any unsold rooms. You can always ask the hotel to confirm this for you.

@RaeGin is mostly correct. But the 8/11/17 date isn't when guests need to book by, but rather when the price the hotel quoted you expires, if you haven't signed a contact by then. I would ask what date the rooms need to booked by your guests before the rooms become available to anyone. Our date was about 3 weeks before the wedding.

Woops, sorry about that. I didn't look at your wedding date, just saw the date in the letter. Ours also expired 3 weeks before the wedding.

We had no minimum amount we needed to fill. Any unfilled rooms just became available to the general public, and any of our guests would have to pay the regular price.

Yup, same with @RaeGin. No minimum number needed, they just opened them up to the public.

ETA: meaning anyone that books under your block will get that rate, even if not all your courtesy holds are used.

Ok so the 8/11 date is the day the offer expires. If you don't sign a contract by that date they will offer you a new offer with different pricing. I would call and talk to someone about the difference for Saturday and Sunday quantities (ours reserved the same number for both days). Ours did not require us to pay for any unused rooms, make sure you know how many your party is responsible for booking. Any guest who books before the block release date (it's not in the pic you showed, make sure they tell you what date that is) will get the discounted rate. If you are required to fulfill a certain amount and don't reach it then you and FH would be responsible for those fees.

The saleswoman I spoke to said we had to have at least 10 rooms booked. 1 night equaled 1 room.
