Couples shower- invite out of town family?

Lauren, on March 13, 2022 at 9:12 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5
Hi there! My aunts are throwing us a couples shower mostly for our families. My fiancé’s family all live across the country and I know they reasonable cannot attend. Should they still be invited to the shower? Thank you!

Do you want them there? Then invite them. They'll appreciate that you were thinking of them, whether they can come or not.

You're not obligated to invite them, but if you want them there sure!

You can invite anyone you wish. Most brides only invite those local to the shower that is being hosted at that time. If one family/friend cluster is located in one area, they will host a shower for you while those local to where you live will host their own separate shower. A shower hosted by coworkers or a church group etc will be a separate shower on a different day.

I would never ask someone to travel across the country for an optional 2 hour party where gifting is expected and just light bites will be served. It would come across as gift grabby

Sometimes just the gesture of being included is appreciated (as long as it is sincere), even when everyone knows it isn’t possible. 🙂
