Hi guys! Are any of your planning on hosting your wedding on a beach in CA? If so, is weather a concern for you?

Daughter's wedding wasn't on a beach, but was outdoors at a country club type venue in So Cal.... I think with ANY outdoor wedding a couple needs to have a strong Plan B for weather. One of the many things daughter loved about her venue was that, if needed, it had an excellent indoor backup option. The week of her wedding it POURED (like record-breaking amounts) from Sunday thru Thursday. The rehearsal was early evening on Thursday and we all arrived in a downpour. We did one walk thru inside, then it suddenly stopped raining, and the coordinator asked if we wanted to do a quick second run thru outside -- daughter and SIL did.... From that point on, it didn't rain again and for the wedding on Saturday afternoon it was 76 degrees, sunny and gorgeous.... They just lucked out, but if she hadn't had a good backup plan, during that week she would have been an absolute mess. Daughter's birthday is in early April, and when she was little, four years in a row I had to scramble to make a new plan when rain and/or Santa Ana winds made it impossible to have the outdoor parties we originally planned. You just never know.

While our wedding isn't outdoors, I do think anyone would need a plan b for anything that's not inside. Our main issues in SoCal (and California as a whole) are heat (this heatwave...my goodness), fires, & Santa Ana winds (which has caused fires), but these all depend on time of year & not everywhere experiences them the same. I'd say if you do have a beach wedding, choose a venue that has indoor options just in case.

I agree with Laquita that there are just too many weird variables in CA.... Yes, a good part of the year we have BEAUTIFUL weather, but RANDOMLY we have pouring rain, crazy Santa Ana winds, unbearable heat, and unfortunately fires.... And, any of them can happen at any time. Daughter got married in January and kept her fingers-crossed she could take advantage of her venue's stunning outdoor options (like I said earlier, she lucked out and it happened), but it was a crap shoot. There have been brides on this forum who had what should have been perfect early fall Napa weddings planned, only to be shut down by forest fires.... Especially in Covid-times, you have to have a plan b, c, and maybe d-z.

Yeah it's always a 50-50 shot out here, our weather is ridiculous sometimes. Even where I am, the fires start and the air quality is not good. Having multiple plans in place is always a must.
