Couples getting married on July 20, 2022

Malita, on August 25, 2021 at 10:55 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

Hey everyone,

I have a problem with my guess list. We are paying for our wedding and my guess list is 60ppl. That is all our budget will allow and my fiancé does not believe in "spending our entire saving on 1 day where people will have opinions on what worked and didn't." I was thinking because so many people like to be invited when I have things going on, that I wanted to have a after wedding celebration for those who weren't invited to the wedding. I'm just thinking and researching but would like some help. I am a Christian and pray about most decisions but this is a struggle. I had a birthday celebration in Dec and had to unfriend a lot of people due to their reactions like "why was I not invited" and "thought we were better friends" an so forth. I don't like negativity and it bothers me. So I was thinking to avoid such a headache about our wedding, I could do this instead but not for gifts, just to celebrate. Need help or ideas. I am just thinking at this point, not planning anything yet. As far as budget, it's easier to spend $100 on food at a backyard BBQ and cooking for a lot of people, because I'm from the Caribbean and know how to stretch food well. So it wouldn't break the bank to celebrate that way. Let me know what you think.

Thanks

I’ve noticed since the Covid pandemic, a lot of people are adding the option of viewing the wedding via live stream. If you wanted to live stream the ceremony, you could invite all the guests over your 60 person headcount to attend virtually. Then no one feels as though they were “left out” of seeing you get married.
And hosting an “I do BBQ” post-wedding to celebrate sounds like a fun idea!

I honestly don't like that virtual idea. I think it's a good option for ones from the 60 ppl that can't go, but to be a "second choice" guest is kind of a low blow. You're basically saying "you can watch the wedding, but you're not important enough for us to feed you." I understand you'd like to invite more and it's a money thing, but those that don't get invited need to just understand that. Offering a virtual option to the less important people is essentially making an A list and B list.

We’re dealing with this issue too but we’ve came to the conclusion that if we don’t associate with you on a regular then they shouldn’t feel left out. We are having a 60 count wedding too

Stick to your guess list. If you don't talk to them on a regular basic you don't need to invite them. They need to understand you can't afford to pay for everyone to attend.
