"Black tie" is really just a dress code. Perhaps he can think of it as a nautical themed wedding that's a dressy function? I'm imagining something like the US Navy military ball.

Actually Black Tie isn't a dress code, it's a style of event that requires top-shelf hosting - everything from complimentary valet service to top shelf open bar to plated multi-course meal served by gloved waiters to multi-piece live band.

I don't even know what theme is applicable for me. I'm planning everything and he only wanted to give input for colors.. Forest green lavender & gray/silver... I don't know what to do with that lol
