Cost of save the dates and invitations?

Amanda, on July 27, 2021 at 2:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

How much did everyone budget or spend on their save the dates and invitations?

I am planning my wedding for next July 2022. We are having our engagement photos taken mid-September and I hope to get our save the dates out in late October/early November before the holidays start.

I am honestly not sure how much I should plan to spend on the save the dates and invites so hoping you all can help!! Smiley smile

I did virtual STDs and it was basically free and environmentally friendly! Still need to pick and buy my invitations.

We got save-the-dates from Minted for about $1/postcard and all-in-one invitations (invite + RSVP card fold into an envelope) from Minted as well for about $2/invitation. Just needed a postcard stamp for the save-the-dates and a forever and a postcard stamp for the invitations/RSVP postcards.

We didn't feel the need to spend tons of money on something that's just going to be tossed in the trash and felt Minted's prices were fair! Great quality and tons of options too!

We got our save the dates from Minted and spent around $200 (minus the cost of stamps). We were very pleased with the quality, and the free envelope addressing was a huge bonus! We ended up getting our invitations elsewhere and spent close to a grand on those (we had a very formal wedding and wanted fancier options to match the formality of the event) but I would absolutely recommend Minted because we had a great experience getting our save the dates there and the quality was great

We got 26 save the dates for about $45 on Etsy, but the way I packaged them, in a box and mailer, it cost me about $4.25 to ship each one and I still have to ship 5 more. I hand delivered 4 of them.

I'm getting acrylic invitations from "Cards and Pockets" for $6.73 each for 30, plus envelopes, RSVP cards, and accommodation cards (~$270 total with shipping to me). They have a free template, so I'm printing my own RSVP and accommodation cards. The invitations will cost me $1.15 to ship each one. My estimate for everything stationary is about $525, but will be closer to $480.

It truly depends what you want to spend. My save the dates were $80 from Etsy. Our first set of invitations were from Etsy and I believe they were around $300. For our new invitations ( postponed)
I wanted to splurge a bit and I went with themescometrue.com and those were about $700

I'm also looking at Minted. We are using their $1.50 all-in-one invitations (includes RSVP). If we do save-the-dates, they'll be $1 each.

I bought mine in bulk on amazon, spend maybe $150 for invites, rsvps, save the dates and wedding shower invites. I bought the ones you hand write all the information in because I have time to do it and most people pitch the invite and dont remember it. Honestly I have spent more on actual stamps than on the invites themselves. I think I spent another $20 or so on thank you cards.

We spent about $100 on Save The Dates and about $250 on the invitations. We ordered 100 both times.

I DIY’d my invitations for about $100 total, including postage for the invites and rsvps for 50 people. Frankly, it would have been easier/saved a lot of time and mental energy to just buy them since I didn’t save THAT much money. At least they looked cute in the end. 🤣

Save the dates are the cost of a phone call or a postcard from Costco.com. Invites are a variety of prices. You can get them inexpensively at annsbridalbargains.com or Costco.com, customize them on Canva or go through a local print shop. Etsy has several that you can take to a local Staples to print.

We used magnet street and got magnet STDs. We ordered 130 of them for about $80, and then $0.55 for each stamp. Just not starting the invitation search!

I bought save the dates on Zazzle (100 of them) for about $148. Then I put on the bottom to RSVP and the link to the WeddingWire website. I'm not sending out any formal invitation because the total wedding costs are already more than my SO really wants to spend lol.

Budgeted for around 50-60 and stayed in that budget! We just bought our save the dates from the Knot! $64 total without taxes and shipping added! They were a little over $1 per card with 60 cards being printed. We dont really think its necessary to spend hundreds of dollars on these or invites considering they will be thrown away right after the wedding for the most part! So cheaper was better for us as long as they looked nice Smiley smile

I made sure to find mine less expensive as possible. For 200 STDs I spent $30 on Walmart website they actually have a ton of cute options. For my invitations it only costed $130 for 180 invitations from magnetstreet.com whom I definitely recommend!

I’m doing my save the dates through the knot, looks like about 120$ for the save the dates, plus an envelope liner and envelopes for about 80$. Around $200 total. We are splurging on invitations because I found a lady on Etsy who customizes western/southwestern designs and shapes it around the wedding colors, etc. that will run about $450-500.

We got a template on Etsy and printed our save the dates at Walmart. This was a really affordable method. It cost about $60 and about $40 for stamps for 80. (150 people, 80 households).
We went a bit more formal on invitations and ordered the invitations and RSVP cards on Zola and it was about $200 for 80. I am assuming stamps will probably be around $40 again. So all in all about $350 for STDs and Invitations!

I spent $100 on my save the dates and got 100 of them, with envelopes. That was from Basic Invites. Depending on where you look for STD & Invitations, they offer discounts you can use. I also found out if you do not use pictures on the STD you can get them for much cheaper.
I suggest shopping around different sites to find a STD/Invitation you like and seeing who has what kind of discounts.

So many variables here - the biggest being how many are you sending. But design costs, how many, whether you do all print or a mix of print and online, and whether you deliver by hand or postage all impacts the total budget.

You can look on Zazzle, Minted, or similar to get a ballpark idea of cost for printed invites pretty easily. About $2 per card for a basic invitation is a good ballpark estimate, but the per item price will be more if you order fewer pieces, less if you order more (quantity discount). Plus add the cost of postage.

We did virtual STDs, printed invites, and online RSVP, and we hand delivered invites to guests who lived in town or whom we worked with. Keep in mind that e
very piece of mail that goes back and forth is postage, and every piece printed adds to the cost. Not doing insert cards (like extra RSVP or details cards), doing virtual STDs, and having people RSVP online, instead of sending back a prestamped envelope, all saved us money. Due to the timing of Covid we did end up sending invites twice, so even though Zazzle reprinted them for free we were still out postage from the first mailing.

We spent about $52 on printed invites (for roughly 80 guests, many but not all being couples), plus an additional $44 on postage. This did not include the costs for other stationary (escort cards, menus) for the wedding, nor the cost of purchasing and sending thank you cards. Do not forget to budget in thank yous!
