Cost of hair/makeup artist?

Gabrielle, on October 23, 2021 at 8:45 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 27

What are reasonable prices for hair/makeup for a destination wedding. I got a quote from the best and most highly recommended in the area we are getting married - $850, for hair/makeup trial, hair/makeup day of wedding, 2 hrs to stick around in case I need any touch ups for photos, eyebrow threading & upper lip threading (I think is included at no additional price), eyelash extensions and travel fee. She just raised her prices and I just can't fathom spending almost $1k for hair and makeup. Anyone else have opinions on this cost?

I think this will really depend on your area, but that actually sounds like a good price for all you’re getting. I don’t get my eyebrows or upper lip threaded so I don’t know what those cost, but anytime I’ve had eyelash extensions, the first set has cost me about $150 and then $100 for refills. Hair/makeup cost me $200 day of. My trials were included because the girls I used were up and coming (and friends of mine) and looking to build their portfolio as a duo. Now they charge the day of prices for trials so that’s $400 for the bride.

I don’t think they are traditional eyelash extensions, I think it’s just fake eyelashes. I still have a few days to decide, it would be a no brainer if she hadn’t just raised her prices

No two people in the same city pay the same price. Price depends on your location and this is an international forum so the prices are all over the spectrum.

Without knowing if you are marrying in a high or low cost of living area, how plentiful the variety of vendors is, and a million other factors, you need to research a number of stylists in your area offering the exact same services at each for proper comparison to get a ballpark range. Go on Yelp, Google, Instagram and contact everyone you can whose portfolio you are drawn to and get a price list.
Keeping in mind that your hair/makeup is in all photos and you need to feel pretty and comfortable, super expensive is not always better. We are in a high cost of living area and the range of prices is mind boggling because you have super inexpensive at a salon or beauty school all they way up to $2000+ for hair *or* makeup for the bride only and it doesn’t look any different or better from the low and mid ranges. Set your budget and find someone willing to work within that.

I think all in all it should be $500 - hair/make up. And that’s from a reputable group in the city that we’re getting married in.

I don’t know if you’re saying $850 for just yourself? But I’m spending $135 for bridal makeup, $80 for trial $140 for bridal hair and $80 for trial and then $155 per bridesmaid and mother. So I’m at an estimate of about $1,675.

We are doing Guanacaste, Costa Rica. I still feel like that price is high - and compared to other prices I saw. Their work is not AS good but much cheaper

Yeah that would be way too high in my opinion. But I live in Minnesota, so maybe it’s different.

I would say thats average or a bit higher - If you break it down to something like $200 trial, 350 day of, 100 for 2 hour touch up, 200 for everything else.

Hi I’m not sure what area you are in bc that makes a difference in pricing but I’m actually a stylist I charge a little different and I don’t do makeup but the way I charge is 55-85$ per person depending if they want it all up or half up or whatnot the 55$ is usually the mothers of the bride and groom bc it’s usually not very extravagant and then if the bride wants a trial I charge the same price as day of and then I charge my travel fee depending on how far it is by mileage and have the bride pay the travel fee up front as a deposit per say. So depending on how many people you have in the wedding party maybe that would help you to see if it’s too high my prices are the average pricing for the area I’m located in some higher some lower. Hope this helps!

This sounds like a great deal to me. We are having a destination wedding and I am paying over $500 just for makeup the day of (no trial, no hair, no threadings, no lash extensions and no sticking around for touchups).

I think it all depends on the area. My makeup is 350 and hair 250 for me which includes a trial for each.

I do makeup for day of $200 (airbrush) and hair for $100-150 in south Florida. Trials are extra and I don’t stay unless requested but that’s a whole other fee. Everyone’s priced differently it just depends

Can I ask you… what are the benefits of airbrush vs traditional?

I’m paying for just my own hair and makeup as the bride that will cost me a total of almost $500 with tip between my hair and makeup trials, traveling fees, and day of service. I live in palm coast florida and am getting married in ormond beach florida so it’s not a great big town.

Well the way airbrush falls onto the face is like little tiny dots so between the dots your skin can breathe plus it gives a more natural look. My airbrush foundation is silicone based so it lashes up to 16 hours as long as they don’t get wasted and sweat out the alcohol but many times my brides use the same makeup for the next morning breakfast with everyone lol!
